Publisher's summary

From USA Today best seller and Audie nominee for Best Fantasy Novel Edward W. Robertson comes book 2 of the hotly anticipated spin-off from the Cycle of Galand universe.

Cally and Rowe have scoured the demonic wights from Narashtovik.

But during the war, Cally learned he can no longer be part of the pacifist Order that raised him to be a sorcerer. The pair has traveled south, seeking the true copy of The Cycle of Arawn - the artifact Cally believes can restore proper rule to Narashtovik.

There's a few problems with this plan, though. For one, nobody's seen the true copy in decades. And another, in these lands, possessing a copy of the Cycle is rewarded with a quick trip to the hangman. If anyone finds out Cally can wield the dark arts of the nether, he'll wish all he got was hanged.

Hunting for the book in the Western Kingdoms, Cally and Rowe are arrested by the Inquisition and sentenced to serve them. Since the Inquisition tracks down banned books, Cally has a better chance to find his prize than ever. But one slip will cost him his life. As the Inquisition pursues its leads, it exposes a conspiracy that could be more devastating than the one that almost destroyed Narashtovik.

Another great cycle

Strong start to the Cycle of Cally. I love the details that keep you in touch with Dante.

interesting addition to the history of the cycle

Learning more on the history of the world of the cycle is interesting. The bone golemns and other lost forms of magic not shown just shows how much changes over a short time. The perspective is interesting as if Kali is telling his story sometjme during the cycle of arawn series. Look forward to the next one.

Stupid kid plot device

I really don't like the plot device of the protaganist (usually a teenager) doing something idiotic (or not doing something when it's idiotic not to do it) that messes everything up. I found myself begging the character to not be stupid when it became obvious that this plot device was taking place. And in one case the idiocy was dragged out over 15 minutes, doing the idiotic or not doing the obvious over and over and over until everything went horribly (and predictably) wrong. About the 3rd consecutive time something idiotic happened in those 15 minutes, but while there was still time to rescue the situation, I was begging the author, out loud, NOT to use such a cheap ploy. My begging was in vain.

Excellent!

Another excellent story in the world of the Cycle. It's great to great Cali's story. I wondered throughout Dante's story about this very odd character. Tim Gerard Reynolds is a wonderful performer!!!

Awesome

Tim Gerard Reynolds is second to none. Never a question as to who is speaking. Once you let go, you just get lost in the story and of course if you're on book two then you already know more or less what you're in for. Sit back and enjoy.
