About this listen

A small town, forbidden romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry.

Sometimes, a single flame can ignite a love that lasts a lifetime.

Milo Phillips knows the meaning of pain. Suffering through the most intense physical agony of his life, he’s confined to a hospital bed to bear it alone. More than once, he wishes he’d died in the explosion that melted and mangled his skin. Darkness consumes him, snuffing all the joy in his life and leaving an empty hole in its place. But one day, a flicker of light sneaks into his hospital room, driving away some of the hopelessness. For the first time in months, pain isn’t all he feels. The flicker’s name is Sara Foster, his new nurse. Milo just hopes that Sara can see past his scars. Because underneath, his heart has begun beating again just for her.

Short and Sweet

I was so happy to finally get Milo and Sara's story! We were introduced to the two in The Coppersmith Farmhouse. It was nice to see see the true details of their story. I loved how their love story unfolded organically and did not take much effort. They met in an unlikely event. They were exactly what each other needed and they met each other in perfect timing. This is a must read. It is short, sweet, grabs your attention and keeps it throughout!

Worth listening to again.

Really like this series. The narration is wonderful. This one is Sarah's retelling of events that happened behind & in between the first two. Definitely worth listening to again.

Wounded Hero Finding Happiness

This book was so good! I loved seeing Milo find happiness and with someone whose heart is so full like Sara’s! The strength both showed throughout this story was beautiful.

Already beautiful, more with these performers

Audiobook: Narrator - Ava Erickson and Aiden Snow

Wow! These narrators did an amazing job of bringing these characters to life. This book had already won my heart, but with the performance of Ms. Erickson and Mr. Snow, I fell even deeper in love with everything about this story. What was cute and fun before, now had me chuckling out loud. What was slightly moving before, now made me want to weep. That’s when you know you’ve got solid gold performers! They added so much more to the story and I loved every moment of it!

Oh yeah! This is what I’m talking about! A novella that is full and rich, filled with enough angst to keep it going, romance that will make you swoon, and some drama to keep it interesting. Add in another trip to Jamison Valley and a story that fans demanded since The Coppersmith Farmhouse and I am spinning with glee!

I was so freaking excited to get Milo’s story. After being burned in an explosion his story takes a back seat to the other characters in Jamison Valley. But now we get to see what really happened and how he met Sara, the love of his life. This was everything I wanted and nothing like I expected.

Working on the burn unit, Sara is a sweet, caring and kind nurse that feels an instant attraction to Milo. His burns don’t distract from what draws her to him but his stoic acceptance of the pain incurred during his treatments makes her respect and care for him more. I loved that she had a genuine heart and although she has some professional struggles in regards to her growing feelings towards Milo, she worked around them and in the process fell madly in love.

”Her touch soothed the burns more than any cream or ointment on earth. Her voice was a dream, chasing away the dread and despair. When Sara was in the room, the pain was bearable.”

We don’t get much of Milo’s point of view, but we know he’s much like Sara in his demeanor. He is polite, kind, and not the type of guy to stand out in the sea of alphas that live in his hometown. But with the right woman, buttons can be pushed and protectiveness can rise up when needed. While this story doesn’t require much in the way of him standing up for her, it’s obvious he is completely alpha over her. Gotta love everything about that!

”No more crying, okay? I can’t take it.”
“I’ll try.” She gave me a small smile. “Is that just a guy thing? Not being able to see a girl cry.”
“No.” I ran my index finger up and over the hills of her knuckles. “I can handle tears. Just not yours.”

This book is filled with so many swoony moments, extreme chemistry between Milo and Sara and moments that will have you choking back a lump in your throat. Ms. Perry brings these characters to life, making them real and their story completely believable. I can’t express how much I loved this couple, their story and this return to Jamison Valley.

Can be read as a standalone.

I completely fell in love listening to Milo and Sara’s story

These two narrators together are just fantastic, every characters voice they portray brings the story to life and immerses me in the authors words. Most days I don’t mind sitting in traffic when I’m listening to an audiobook that has the ability to transport me somewhere else. I had really wanted to read this book right when it released but the never ending TBR pile struck again! BUT I am so glad I did the the audio instead - I completely fell in love listening to Milo and Sara’s story.

Burn unit nurse Sara Foster shouldn’t harbor feelings towards patients unless it is that of compassion to give them the best care possible. Yet when Milo Phillips becomes a patient in her unit - she can’t help but be drawn to him and his mesmerizing coffee-colored eyes even if a relationship could cost her her job. With Milo severely burned in an explosion, he is anything but a pleasant patient, in extreme pain and lashing out at everyone. Yet, there is something about Sara that soothes his wounds just by her being in the room. I was in love with the quick connection these two shared - something about a nurse/patient romance makes me swoon. I cannot imagine the pain of third degree burns that Milo suffered, so finding comfort in the his nurse could be expected but it was more than that and they both knew it. The forbidden aspect and subsequent issues it caused in Sara’s job added tension to the storyline and had me listening to the story at every chance I got. I would absolutely recommend this audiobook!

Loved the series!

Wow! Great series! They can be read alone but I enjoyed the flow on the books. Not to much in your face sex but just enough to keep you intrigued. Every male character was strong, and loving in a different way protective of the women they fall in love with. The women were strong as well and I think that’s why I enjoyed this series. You could have to strong people fall in love and be tender together. After each book I would think “this is my favorite!!” Looking forward to your next series.

Solid storytelling & narration

If you enjoyed the series or just want a quick emotional story this is just right! Devny Perry has a way with emotion and she is able to capture it nicely here. Ava Erickson, as always, is impeccable! Aiden Snow only narrates less than 10mins so be aware.
