About this listen

"The perfect summer read" (Booklist) from New York Times best-selling author Elin Hilderbrand: An intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life.

With rumors of infidelity straining Greg and Tess MacAvoy's marriage, the couple head out on their sailboat one early summer day to celebrate their wedding anniversary, hoping the roughest waters are behind them. But in an accident off Nantucket, they mysteriously drown, leaving behind two small children as well as three couples who have long been their closest friends. Tragedy brings to the surface long-simmering conflicts and emotions, and the MacAvoys' six grieving friends find themselves unprepared for the revelation of secret upon secret as they struggle to answer the question: What happened to Greg and Tess?

The Castaways probes the boundaries of friendship and forgiveness as it tells a page-turning story of passion, betrayal, and suspense, filled with the perfect details of summer island life that have made Elin Hilderbrand's novels beloved best sellers.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book... it was simple and easy but kept me interested until the end. I may even miss the characters.

Great story, odd production

Beautiful story.

However, he music transitions seemed to be in very awkward places in the story.

Pretty decent

It was very amusing, but overly scandalous. Do do grow weary of the over dramatized miscarriages, but that's just me.

Love the story, Not the narrrator.

EH is my go-to gal for easy-to-listen to, drive-time blissful getaway books. I have adored most of her books. Yes, there are common themes, characters, places, but like a soap opera, I think that is what draws me in. The story keeps going. And if you pick up a book accidentally second that you should have ready first, well, it's okay. You won't be bored. (See any of the Winter series). I also didn't read/listen to EH in order, so I am pleased that the 16 or so I did listen to narrated by Erin Bennett were phenomenal. (#GirlCrush!) While Katie Hale is by no means a bad narrator - I am sure there are authors out there who could use her - I found myself annoyed because I wanted to hear Erin's intonations, accents, and frivolity. So, I know that's on me and not EH or Hale. I'll have to look up the EH inventory now... not sure I have any left... I do want to go back and listen to some in order...because now there is back story. (Hint: Castaways is an early book, 2009 but find one list here https://www.booksradar.com/hilderbrand-elin/hilderbrand.html.)

Ehhh

Definitely not her best. I did not like the narrator she was flat. It can go up from here.

Disappointing

Not her strongest story telling. It felt like the “payoff would be great but it was haphazardly thrown together. Yawn

definitely not like Elin's other books

I read this years ago in hard cover but couldn't find my copy nor could I remember how this story went. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember because nothing really happens in this story. I usually finish Elin's books within a day or two reading or 3 days of listening and this one? this one took one year and I finished it simply because I really didn't leaving stories unfinished.

There's no real conflict aside from the initial tragedy but the characters, except the children, aren't really sympathetic so I had a hard time caring about them (aside from Ed Kapenash. I always like when he, Fast Eddie or Blonde Sharon appear).

I think one of my other issues is that the reader is very monotone as opposed to Erin Bennett who reads many of Elin's books.

Good, mindless listening. Love her writing style and narrator was very good. Easy to listen to.

Don't cast away this one

Though initially I had a hard time sorting out who was married to whom, I really enjoyed this book. Well written, good story line, good narration. I was concerned that (like many a good book) the ending would be disappointing, but I'm happy to say that the author finished as strong as she started. A good listen.

Loved it!

Wasn't sure what to expect. ..I loved that Tess and Addison fell in love and had a brief affair.
