About this listen

"You got married on your divorce-cation?"

That would unfortunately be correct.

I was hanging with the girls, celebrating my divorce, when I saw him - my crush, sitting in the corner of the bar, and all alone. Being single and looking for a wild night, I asked him if he wanted to join me. To my delight, he said yes.

Drinks were consumed, fun was had, and then....one drunken conversation with a cranky gondolier in Las Vegas led to an Uber lift through a drive-through wedding chapel with the incredibly hot British bad boy Pike Greyson. On paper, it seemed like I had hit the jackpot. And if I wasn't fresh from a toxic marriage, I would have absolutely noticed the finer things about him.

But I wanted nothing to do with being married, so when I arrived back home from my eventful weekend in Vegas, the last thing I expected to see was a new doting husband already moved in. I asked for an annulment; he pulled a Ross Geller and said no. That's right, he said no! Instead, he asked for three months to prove we could be good together.

Insanity clearly knocked him in the head, and the only way I could convince him to give up on our sham of a marriage was to show him just how wrong we were for each other. The only problem with that was, he saw right through my every prank, every trick, and every yearning emotion I attempted to mask.

Flirty, funny, sexy

I enjoyed the paths this story took as it described two people falling in love after getting trapped in a Vegas Wedding. I did not care for the abundance of dirty sex talk that seemed a bit repetitive to me as the book continued. I have heard Vanessa Edwin narrate before and love the emotion she brings to her character. This was my first listen with John Hartley, and at first I thought he was a bit too “breathy” for a male narrator, but I came to appreciate how his voice matched his character.
Good escape read.

Sign me up for detention!

Coraline Turner finally gets her moment! I surely did not expect that she would end one marriage and get into another with, none other than Pike Grayson. Cora's crushed on him for a while, but her brother's animosity towards his newest colleague stops her. That and she has fought long and hard for the singles lane so nothing, not even this attraction, will detour her. These two... funny, quick witted banter, diabolical pranks, palpable angst! She had her reasons for wanting him gone; he other reasons for wanting her to stay. This is a great addition to the steamy teacher romance collection. Plus those appearances from characters in the other books in this series... Arlo and Greer, Romeo and Stella, Keiko and Kelvin and their quirky personalities.

This is the first book I've listened to with John Hartley as one of the narrators. He's talented and brought Pike's character to life in living color! Vanessa Edwin's truly portrayed Cora's personality to a tee.

I received advance copies of the ebook and audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this review.

I feel like if this character makes another mistake she’ll just dump him and that is not fair !!!!

Such a great book and good audio narration

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas right? Well....that's true, unless a lot of fireball (and some pretzels) lead you to get married in a drive thru chapel while in Vegas on your divorce-cation. Poor Cora just tried to celebrate her divorce in style with her friends, have a fun hook up in Vegas, and enjoy being single and instead, a very drunken night found her right back in the married life. And then, when she wants a divorce and to put it all behind her, he gives her the Ross Geller response and says "no." He wants to see if they can make it work. Oh Pike Grayson. The beautiful, tattooed, British teacher who works with Cora's brother nonetheless and has his reasons for wanting to stay in the marriage. Of course, in true Meghan Quinn fashion, hilarious antics ensue. But as the pranks, and games begin, Cora and Pike both soon begin to discover that this "sham" of a marriage starts to feel more real than they ever imagined.

Having read See Me After Class and being aware of Arlo (Cora’s brother) and Cora's back story I was braced for an emotional journey with Cora's story. Her story is one I have been dying for since I first read See Me After Class but man did this one still punch me in the gut at times. She and Arlo both just get me in all the feels. One of the reasons I LOVE Meghan's books so much is she so beautifully balances the humor and the pranks with the serious issues and the tears and this book is a perfect example of how she masterfully weaves those into one book. There are such serious issues tackled at times in this book, while at other times, they are pranking each other and getting on each other's nerves.

This book has:

* A marriage of (in)convience;
* a small studio apartment with one bed;
* lots of pranking and antics we've come to love from this series;
* a tattooed (pierced **yummy**) bad boy who is really a softie;
* and so much Kieko!

Let me tell you about Pike Grayson! He is so much yummy! He is so sweet and caring and I wanted to eat him up. Maybe my favorite part of this book is his relationship with Keiko! I loved how he knew what she needed and she related to him and was so fiercely defensive of him as a friend. I loved his back story and his family and seeing him as a complete character. In short, Pike Grayson can put me in Detention for sure! He is an MQ fave of mine now for sure!

The audio book of Put Me In Detention is narrated by Vanessa Edwin and John Hartley. Vanessa as always is brilliant. She is recognizable from other Meghan Quinn books as she narrated Kiss and Don't Tell and The Perfect Catch. As always she is flawless and I loved listening to her. John Hartley did the narration for Dirty English by Ilsa Madden-Mills which I listened to so I am familiar with his narration as well and he always does an excellent job with voice inflections and such a smooth British accent. I struggled a little with Hartley as Pike just because his tone wasn't quite what I pictured in my head as Pike but that purely a personal preference and had nothing to do with Hartley's narration as he is an excellent narrator and I always enjoy his narrations.

Overall, I would give this one 4.5 stars. It is an enjoyable read with everything from laughs to cries to some moments where you want to grab through the book and shake the characters. I would HIGHLY recommend reading See Me After Class first! I think this book almost needs the background between Arlo and Cora because there are some great scenes between them and while Cora gives some of that background, I cannot imagine feeling the feels I did without having read Arlo's story first.

Thank you to the author and Piece of Cake Audiobooks for gifting me an advance copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

A hilarious, steamy rom-com!

Meghan Quinn has written another fantastic, fun, hilarious, flirty, rom-com in Forest Heights world and I absolutely adored it. Pike and Cora's story begins with a bang, when they wake up in Vegas married! Cora was supposed to be celebrating her divorce being final but instead ends up marrying a sexy british, tattooed history teacher after a drunken night of shenanighans! Pike and Cora were so fun together. Their story is hot and steamy with a little bit of angst thrown in. Upon returning home after their Vegas marriage you would think a quick annulment would be the next steps, but Pike has other plans and convinces Cora to let him move in with her. This part of the story was the best! The frustration and tension of living under the same roof and trying to resist each other was hilarious. I couldn't get enough of their witty banter, laugh out loud moments, and undeniable chemistry. I loved Pike's friendship with Keiko. She is beyond quirky and over the top but she is one of those characters that you will never forget. This story in audio format was such a delight! Vanessa Edwin and John Hartley are phenomenal story tellers. Their voices captivated me immediately and kept me throughly entertained from beginning to end.

Emotional

Cora & Pike are two damaged people struggling to find themselves one more damaged than the other and one fighting against a Tyrannical Patriarch. Find themselves married and though one for the wrong reasons and the other against the whole institution realize that love and fate can show up unexpectedly. The Rollercoaster of emotions and heartbreaking moments Quinn can mend them in her unique way to reach their hard-earned HEA.

Enjoyed

Mixture of humor and drama with some snarky conversations is why I like Meghan Quinn. This story had me laughing at the start and moved along quickly and kept me interested and anticipating when Cora and Pike would finally get it together. Loved listening to Vanessa Edwin’s expressive sweet voice in combination with husky accented John Hartley.
