Publisher's summary

When Father Henry McGrath hears a confession that sends a cold chill throughout his body, he’s unsure what to do. To divulge the private confession would violate holy canon law. When he refuses to go to the police, people begin to die, and the priest becomes the prime suspect.

Elizabeth Monroe, a college professor who teaches forensic psychology, doesn’t believe the elder priest fits the killer’s profile. Elizabeth discovers a frightening thread woven within each killing - a thread that began 30 years ago. To stop the murders, she has to find where the seed of evil was first planted. Because the roots are penetrating deep within a small Mississippi town and they’re spreading dangerously close to Elizabeth.

Excellent Narration

A great story made more exciting by the excellent performance. This is a story of a terrible tragedy that affected many, but was ignored. Years later the evil that was covered up did not simple go away, but manifested into an even greater evil, returning to extract revenge on unsuspecting victims.

The church protects the priests...

I really enjoy Tom Lowe’s historical thrillers. Although involving history this book deals with a more recent history of only 23 years in the past. This is the third book involving Elizabeth Monroe. The first was the Butterfly Forest which is part of the Sean O’Brien series. Wrath is the second and the beginning of this series. I would suggest listening to the three books in the order they were written.
This novel involves the Catholic Church, a priest who was a pedophile and the extent the church will go to to protect itself rather then the children who are abused/raped by these people. In this book one of these children has grown up, it’s now 23 years since and following a life of drugs and mental health issues he’s returned to where it all began for retribution. Monroe, a forensic psychologist is called in to assist with profiling. She has personal reasons for wanting in on the case but you would have to listen to Butterfly Forest to understand.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Gut Wrenching Tale of Murder and Deceit

The second in the Elizabeth Monroe series is top notch and keeps you on the edge of your seat as the police and Elizabeth look for a killer who killed two young people in a stalled vehicle that had ran out of gas. Elizabeth, a college professor and forensic profiler who lost her own daughter years earlier, is assisting the authorities as they try to learn what motivated the person to so brutally murder the young couple, who were engaged to be married. Not simply a murder, but one motivated by rage and somehow tied to a weird religious thought pattern. Police are quick to pin the murder on a local man known to be a menace, but something still doesn't feel right to Elizabeth. And when the murders continue, the authorities are forced to agree with her. The subject matter is a controversial one but one the author (thankfully) does not shy away from. Many people confuse the horrible abuse of children by those in the church with actual faith and Christianity, when, in fact, it is pure SIN, detestable to God, as it should be to all of us. This book is very well done, showing the difficult position it puts good priests in (who do value their vows) when confronted with an unrepentant parishioner. This is an excellent series. Great resolution, that had me holding my breath. I hope for more in the series soon!

EXPLOSIVE SUBJECT AND STORY!

I'm such a major fan of Tom Lowe. No other author exceeds his writing talents! I'm amazed at how well he approached such an explosive topic. I'm from the Coast of Mississippi and truly appreciate his knowledge of the state. This is a gripping story and I highly recommend it to everyone. Eliza Foss was a good narrator but missed on the pronunciation of "Biloxi". Otherwise, an easy listen.
