About this listen

Featured in the best-selling book Born to Run, coach and performance guru Eric Orton has spent a lifetime learning and thinking about running and about the limitless possibilities of the human body and mind. In The Cool Impossible, Orton shares his wealth of knowledge in an inspiring step-by-step guide that will open up a new world of achievement for runners of all levels of ability and experience. The truth is: Athleticism is awareness. That simple phrase is at the core of The Cool Impossible. Athleticism requires awareness of form and technique, awareness of our effort level, and, most important, awareness of what we think (and don' t think). And with that awareness comes the possibility of endless potential and improvement, progress and mastery - and, ultimately, achievement that you never before would have thought possible. With a program focused on proper running form, strength development, and cardiovascular training, Orton will help first-step beginners, prime-time competitors, and enduring veterans reach " the cool impossible" - the belief that any achievement, athletic or otherwise, is within our reach.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Cool Impossible to be better than the print version?

This book has some really good stuff in it and is a good followup to Born to Run if you are wanting to apply some of that enthusiasm felt after reading that book. Unfortunately, while Orton is a great trainer with terrific insight he is not a very good writer. The narration is really poor. It is not one you want to listen to while running but I found the content really good and well worth the effort it takes to get through it.

Would you ever listen to anything by Eric Orton again?

yes

How could the performance have been better?

different narration, better writing

Great content but patience is required

Great book, was not what I expected at all. The style made for easy listening. As it involves great mental imagery not suitable for driving or while operating heavy machinery.

The added essay at the end was a very nice touch.

I too hope to make it to Jackson hole one day to witness the extreme landscape.

Read the reviews on this book and hesitated buying it. But glad I did, this book has more real running information and help for average runners, than any book I've bought. Thank you Eric

Comprehensive and inspirational on both running technique, nutrition and motivation. Great book that I use actively when improving my running.

Book was fine but the audible version did not have any of the appendixes he refers to...missing a huge portion of the material. Plus the ending was messed up. The book ended and then the forward was read. Then there was another section of the book- a second ending. Weird.

Not really meant for audio

I was super excited about this book, but in the end was disappointed that there was no supplement to the audio book. Really, how is this unabridged? Complete sections are missing.

Eric makes a lot of references to items that appear in the print edition and there's no option for those of us who purchased the audio-book to understand unless we supplement this book with a purchase of a print edition also.

Having said that, I did enjoy the material and I did pick up a thing or two from listening to it. Overall however I was just annoyed. I wish I had purchased the print edition rather than this audio-book. Hopefully, you can learn from my mistake.

Inadequate in Audio Format. No supplement offered.

Would be 5 stars if it came with a PDF that gave the illustrations, workouts, etc. without it, it’s just a book talking about a guy who could help you improve, not a book that helps you improve with specific actions.

Needs an accompanying PDF
