Great book

One of my favorite books of all time! I worked I could have completed the entire recording in one sitting, but, unfortunately, I do have to sleep sometime.

Being a lengthy novel, it is distracting from the story and performance to have to listen to the same person narrating the book (I enjoyed both the story and performance of the novel), so others may need to break up the book into small doses to fully appreciate how wonderful it really is!

The story is wonderful, the narrator is terrible.

I've read this unabridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo in the past, it's a wonderful book with an incredible story, the time I read it it took me around 6 months only reading during my commute in the mornings and the evenings, about 1 hour a day.

I got this audiobook because of my love for the story and because I've listened to some other books in this manner and the narrators always make the story even better by their performances.

That being said, the narrator for this book has a very deep voice that makes him barely understandable in headphones and a total nightmare to listen to in the car, also he narrates like Captain Kirk used to deliver dialog on the original Star Trek series.

I would not recommend any book read by this particular narrator.

Well worth the months of reading

A classic that I want to read again. It took me months in my limited time, but I'm so happy I did it.

Terrible Narration

I am so disappointed in the narration of one of the most classic tales ever written. The narration is so confusing! His inflection is sporadic, he can’t keep a consistent volume, he forgets his accents for different character, and his cadence is just horrendous. Really wish there was a different version available on audible.

Great story, not as great reader.

I enjoyed the book, but felt the reader read haltingly which I found difficult to listen to.

A distracting performance for a good story

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator had unnatural pauses and a cadence which was totally distracting. Perhaps that is why this version was only about two dollars.

Narration difficult to follow

While Dumas’ work is brilliant and engaging, the narration was very difficult to follow. While speech delivered in a halting manner may be effective to highlight a character or situation, the presentation here was off-putting. Would not recommend this narration. Would highly recommend the book. Was only able to make it through half the book (26 hours) before I gave up.

Long, but good.

Would you listen to The Count of Monte Cristo again? Why?

No, too long.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Edmond of course.

What didn’t you like about Alan Munro’s performance?

He is not my favorite narrator. Have heard him before. He has a very peculiar way of talking that is not easy on the ears. I had to speed up the reading to be able to get used to.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Vengeance is mine.

So much darker than the movie. OMG! I loved it.

Edmund dantes loses everything and with a brief stroke of luck gains the means to destroy those who harmed him.
