About this listen
Midlands police chase a serial killer who inflicts death by the new urban weapon of choice.
Given the targets seem enveloped in love affairs and deceitful liaisons, Chief Inspector Gavin Roscoe suspects a motive of jealousy and revenge. But as the number of victims increases, the connection between them wears thin.
Is it really a broken heart holding the crossbow? And if it's not some crazed Cupid, who has their finger on the trigger?
Plucky Detective Sergeant Sunita Roy doesn't think they are looking in the right places. Yet without evidence, her theory won't hold water. With the help of valiant and besotted DI Tom Vickers, she'll take considerable risks to hunt down the hunter.
Following multiple leads, the duo will need to collar the right suspect, but nothing is quite what it seems in this exciting police procedural full of twists and turns.
The Crossbow Stalker is the second standalone book to feature DCI Roscoe and DS Roy.

The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Widowed van driver Bob Naylor is prodded into joining the Chichester Writers' Circle by his teenage daughter. Bob writes limericks and jingles, and fears he will be out of his class amongst the literati. But the members of the circle come from all walks of life and practice many forms of writing, from fantasy to household hints. There seems to be nothing about any of them to incite a serial killer. However, there is an arsonist in their midst, burning his victims to death, and Bob becomes a suspect.

You won't remember Mr. Heming. He was the estate agent who showed you around your comfortable home, suggested a financial package, negotiated a price with the owner, and called you with the good news. The less good news is that, all these years later, he still has the key. That's absurd, you laugh. Of all the many hundreds of houses he has sold, why would he still have the key to mine? The answer is; he has the keys to them all. William Heming's most at home in a stranger's private things.

I like the characters. I disliked the relative inconsistency of the main character between books one and two, and I was frustrated by the constant risk taking of the second primary character. Very smart, but also not so much :)

Disappointing 2nd in series
So disappointing compared to 1st in series. I swear, I think this was written (at least in part) by a cheap version of AI. So many things wrong with the way this book is written, & it just gets worse the further you get into it. Listening till the end, only because I want to know who committed the crimes. Definitely not worth a credit. Narration is fine; nothing else is.
