Meet DI Hillary Greene, a police woman fighting to save her career. Not only has she lost her husband, but his actions have put her under investigation for corruption. Then a bashed and broken body is found floating in the Oxford Canal.

It looks like the victim fell off a boat, but Hillary is not so sure. Her investigation exposes a dark background to the death.

Can Hillary clear her name and get to the bottom of a fiendish conspiracy on the water?

I am always looking for a new series and decided to try this one. Not a good decision. The story is told in far to much painful detail. The story moves along like some UK television series taking too long to get to the point. They don't have a good story to tell so they bore you to death with babble about what 40 characters were thinking about while waiting for paint to dry. I wonder if the UK police are really so political. The story makes you wonder if they solve crimes by accident and while hiding from their bosses. My advice look elsewhere for a good story.

Lots of blah blah

I was hesitant to purchase this and start another series, but I'm glad I did. The author left a great hook at the end that encourages me to read the next installment.

Great read... or listen!

The writing style was efficient, informative & very aware of human weaknesses, human nature & human strengths. Recommend!

Layered plotline, convincingly human characters, strong protagonist, entertaining.

Liked the story but the narration made it difficult to tell when the narrative switched from one character to the next. The narrator needs to learn to use micro pauses

Good story. Mediocre narration

Another great book by Faith. Another book you haven’t solved until the end of the book.

Fun listen….

I felt this was a cross between a cozy mystery and a crime/thriller. Lot s of cliches and the characters were ok but none compelling. Sigh, I got tired of Hllary and her woe is me with problems and wishing she was thinner self deprication banter with herself and others. The story line about the ex-husband and internal affairs got old real fast and it wasn't resolved completely. Cue the too pretty to be a cop lady, the womanizer detective, and the new guy learning the ropes. Still it was readable but not compelling where I wanted more. The bad guy is exactly who you think he is but it was good taking the ride to get to him. Overall the book ok, not bad but not excellent.

Ok but not great

The was a surprise. the author has a talent for description and giving characters a recognizable voice. Great, tight mystery.

Love the Snappy Dialogue and Descriptions

The only complaint I had was that there were too many characters to keep up with. I wished the narrator would have done more pauses when the story jumped to another character.

A good police procedural

This book/audiobook was better than I expected. Faith Martin crafted a believable mystery with some twists and turns, but not as many as my favorite authors. This was the first in the DI Hillary Greene series and I have downloaded the next installment. Gemma Dawson’s performance was enjoyable and easy to hear. I recommend this book to mystery fans.

Police work is mostly the same the world over (except for terminology) and especially Internal Affairs investigations. The good detective is still getting screwed over by her divorced and dead police crook husband because the filth need to be sure that she wasn't working with him (particularly since they never knew about his 10 year involvement in International crime). The good and bad about cops and their interpersonal problems is well depicted, and the mystery (not just the murder) investigation is worth reading and paying for.

Great start to series!
