About this listen

P. D. James meets E. L. James in Under a Silent Moon, this first novel in an exciting British crime series-a blend of literary suspense and captivating thriller that introduces formidable Detective Chief Inspector Louisa Smith - from suspense talent Elizabeth Haynes, author of the best-selling Into the Darkest Corner.

In the crisp, early hours of an autumn morning, the police are called to investigate two deaths. The first is a suspected murder at a farm on the outskirts of a small village. A beautiful young woman has been found dead, her cottage drenched with blood. The second is a reported suicide at a nearby quarry. A car with a woman's body inside was found at the bottom of the pit.

As DI Louisa Smith and her team gather evidence, they discover a shocking link between the two cases and the two deaths - a bond that sealed their terrible fates one cold night, under a silent moon.

Contains mature themes.

Audible has found another mystery for the Top Shelf. It starts awkwardly. But once the crime story starts moving it is riveting. I love police procedurals and it is Brotish and the narrator is excellent.
And the author writes so well I hope to find more of her books soon.

Highly detailed investigation into two seemingly separate cases with a multitude of different police professionals and vague clues kept me listening constantly. The main characters are believable but not thoroughly rounded. I’m sure the next in the series will fill them out. Narrator is good with voices and dialects.

Great procedural.

My biggest problem is with the book and narration is what feels like interruptions in the flow when they start reading from police reports, especially the constant repeating of "age of interviewee if under the age of 18" with the responseof"over 18". Much of the reasons onably sounds stiff and stilted especially when reading the police reports.

Well written but a lot of names to keep track of along the way. Eventually the story does evolve to a few key players. I’ll definitely listen to the next one.

A lot to keep track of

There are a lot of terrific authors out there and we are blessed to have them all, but I am so grateful to have discovered this one! Absolute perfection as far as I’m concerned. And the narration was wonderfully done. Can’t recommend more highly.

Wow! Blown away

Yet another romance novel slipped into the mystery category because the protagonist is a cop and there are a couple of dead bodies.

If I wanted to read descriptions of angsty lovers and their various body parts -- how they glisten, swell and fit together -- I'd be in the romance listings to begin with. Not my thing and I will be returning this. If you enjoy it, there's plenty to be had in this book.
