Is bourbon the quintessential American liquor? Bourbon is not just alcohol - the amber-colored drink is deeply ingrained in American culture and tangled in American history. From the early days of raw corn liquor to the myriad distilleries that have proliferated around the country today, bourbon is a symbol of the United States. This course traces bourbon's entire history, from the 1700s, with Irish, Scottish, and French settlers setting up stills and making distilled spirits in the New World, through today's booming resurgence.

Story
We live in a world of seeds. From our morning toast to the cotton in our clothes, they are quite literally the stuff and staff of life, supporting diets, economies, and civilizations around the globe. Just as the search for nutmeg and the humble peppercorn drove the Age of Discovery, so did coffee beans help fuel the Enlightenment and cottonseed help spark the Industrial Revolution. And from the fall of Rome to the Arab Spring, the fate of nations continues to hinge on the seeds of a Middle Eastern grass known as wheat.

Good stuff
With spring on the way I was looking to listen to a book on gardening that could teach me about sustainability, eco-friendly methods and figure out what exactly “permaculture” is. This book stood out to me because I liked that the title highlighted all of these things. Throughout the book there are lots of hands on activities to do, to help you learn these techniques. Many of which are DIY…. Which was something else I was looking for. It’s so fun to learn self reliance through gardening, and this book really helped me understand how to do that. The water harvesting chapter was very helpful. And it also feels good to know the small things I’m doing for my own home (things learned in this book) also supports bigger change world wide.

That’s when I decided to give this audiobook a try. The practical, easy-to-follow advice really hit home, especially since my space is limited, and my schedule is packed with responsibilities. The audiobook helped me break things down into manageable chunks, like creating a small compost bin and planting herbs in containers, so I didn’t feel overwhelmed. By the end of it, I felt inspired and ready to start small, maybe with a little herb garden on the balcony, and work my way up. If you're feeling the same way, don’t hesitate to give it a listen. It’s a total game-plan builder for anyone looking to dive into sustainable living, no matter how busy you are!
