About this listen

Ben McKelvie had a good job, a nice house, a beautiful fiancé...until a bloodthirsty shape-shifter took everything away. Ever since, he's been chasing supernatural phenomena all across the country, aided by dedicated zoologist Lindsay Clark and wealthy cryptozoologist Richard Severance.

Now, they face their deadliest challenge yet. In the New Jersey Pine Barrens, a man named Henry Drexler operates a private compound called Välkommen, which is Swedish for "welcome". Indeed, Drexler welcomes all visitors - so long as they're racists, neo-Nazis, or otherwise in cahoots with the alt-right. But Drexler is no mere Hitler wannabe. Once he was Severance's mentor, and his research may well have summoned a monster to the Pine Barrens.

To find out the truth, Ben and Lindsay must enter the camp incognito. There, under the watchful eyes of Drexler's bodyguards and sociopathic son, they will learn that the most dangerous beasts lurk in the human heart.

Is there more ?

I liked all three books listen to them over and over .though that Northwoods was the best..but they are all good .Enjoy the narrative voice..it makes a big difference and helps you get into the story !

Not as good as first 2…

I was expecting more monster-ish stuff, but most of this story was about a Jones-like cult in the Pine Barrens. Too much people violence! Also the weird nonsense toward the end with Ben and Lindsay….just weird. Somehow the story ventured off track IMHO. Was expecting something much better. Oh well, maybe more will come later.

The Trilogy Ends With The Scariest Chapter

What did you love best about The Devil's Colony?

The characters. You get to feel that you know them as friends.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ben - he is our everyman and most realistic as far as his reactions go.
Runner up: Gus (We all need more Gus)

Which character – as performed by Will Damron – was your favorite?

Ben - as noted above. He is very relatable and a guy you might want to hang out with.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. If I had the time I certainly would have. Very engrossing.

Any additional comments?

In my opinion: This time the human monsters are scarier than the ones from folklore. This chapter of the trilogy creeped me out more than either of the previous chapters.

This ends the trilogy and on a fitting note too, regarding all the characters.
BUT...
I would LOVE to see another trilogy if the author could come up with another good storyline. More please.

Iffy

I thought the performance was great but the story line wasn't as good as the first two books. I felt like the build up was pretty slow and then the climax was a bit too easy and fast. almost rushed. The final conclusion was nice, leaving it a tidy ending making another book unnecessary, although there could be room for a new story.

Okay

Some of the passages in the story are a bit wordy and long winded. I guess it the emotion he is attempting to convey. Story wise I was surprised to find that this one brings the two previous stories around to center on an ending. Nicely done.

Hastily written

I really would've liked the author to spend more time developing the story, it felt rushed and even though the three books were brought together, I would have liked to learn more about Davis

Delightfully Devilish Wrap-up

Fabulously frenetic conclusion... I love this series, and this book certainly delivered on my expectations... Wonderful banter, thrilling pace, and quirkily inimitable characters... Monsters in plain site is the theme... Who needs paranormal when you have so many run o' the mill monsters hanging around... Nice build up, and the latter half grabs you by the throat and tosses you about liberally... Several WTF moments, and the climax was fantastical as it should have been... I'm gonna truly miss these characters and the non traditional family they form, but greedily await what Mr. Schweigart has in store for us next... Humor masterfully mixed w/ the heebie jeebies I'm sure;). Narration is acceptable, but many will find it on the slow side, I found the flow very nice at 1.5x... If you've enjoyed the series so far you'll gobble this one up, if not, go ahead and start at the beginning, you'll thank me...

Another action oriented story that ties up all the loose ends with a satisfying ending.

My favorite part about this book is that it takes all the plots from the previous two books and ties them together into a grand finale. All the cryptids and all the deaths have a central figure at their nexus. This has all the characters from the previous books brought to life for your listening pleasure with great narration. This brought much needed closure to an excellent trilogy.
