A voyage of the Damned.

The annual blessing of the fishing fleet is more than a ceremony, it provides God's protection from the demons of the sea. But Captain John Boston has no time for God and holy sanctions. The church has betrayed him, with the local priest refusing to protect his sister from a violent husband, and Boston's wife is seriously ill.

The trawler hasn't had much luck this season and people are whispering that God has indeed turned his gaze from John Boston too, because he didn't accept the priest's traditional blessing. Now the boat is sailing one last time to try and fill its holds with fish. There's more than a mysterious fog, bad weather, and empty nets waiting for them.

The devil has a boat of his own and he's out on the cold ocean, trawling for dead men and their souls.

Volume 4 is just as entertaining as those before it. It follows the usual formula: an individual being haunted by a spirit for their own reasons.

There are plenty of "creepy" moments as you'd expect aboard a ship in the middle of the water in the dead of night. I did like the twist toward the end. It actually had me go back and re-listen to bits to make sure I got it right. I felt for the captain throughout it all, so kudos to GM Hague for making that happen.

Overall, a solid listen with excellent narration from the author.

I appreciate the work of G.M. Hague so much. There is something to be said for short form horror that cuts right to the core of the issue - no dilly dallying with silly romance stories or useless exposition/background. This story follows a group of men who risk it all by aiming to catch as many fish as they can in waters not often traveled. They come across a lone, unmanned boat that they soon find will haunt their course at sea. I won't say more for fear of spoilers but I will say that I loved this short tale from top to bottom. It is narrated by the author, who has a fairly thick Australian accent, which I found amusing and didn't think it detracted from the story.

Bizarre accidents, mysterious deaths, and a mysterious abandoned ship await these fisherman of the high seas in this short but entertaining story. The story was more mystery than horror.

In my opinion, The Devils Net, is worth your listening time if you enjoy this kind of tale.

This was a fun book. I knew it would be a bad time on the sea for the characters, I knew it was a ghost story, I knew what to expect in a way. Still enjoyed it immensely. I thought it was written and performed well by the author. Still don't want to be on open water. I will take my fishing from the safety of the shore, thank you very much.

This in my opinoin; is the best of the short stories currently written by G.M. Hague. It's set at sea on a fishing trawler and is a really good nautical ghost story. The characters are very well written and believable also. The author is also the narrator in this case, and he does a good job of bringing the characters to life. Overall an enjoyable few hours of listening, recommended.

Another wonderful thriller by G.M. Hague, narrated by the author. Normally, I would caution an author against narrating his own book, but this author happens to have a sexy as hell Australian accent that does him justice eight ways from Sunday, and he could be reading the New York telephone directory and it would still sound alluring to me. So in this case, the narration by the author WORKS. Boy, does it work.

Mr. Hague employs themes that engage the sea in some fashion, and I like that because it adds to the mystery of man against nature in this case. The idea of being adrift in the middle of a vast sea with failing navigation equipment is frightening enough, but when your fellow shipmates start to disappear one at a time, well, that's time to start to worry even more.

I also love that the author doesn't lose his sense of humor. Early in the story, he describes this rather small fishing boat, so at one point when they are searching something, one of seamen responds, "It's not the Queen Mary, it's got to be here somewhere," or words to that effect. and it made me laugh out loud.

Also profanity was used well and appropriately for the situations that occurred, and let's not forget that we are listening in on a bunch of sailors.

Now I'm not a sailor, nor do I hang out with sailors, but this book was enjoyable as ever because of the suspense, the great descriptions, and the fact that I could almost smell the brine and feel the motion of the boat while laying in bed listening. What terrific writing.

There's a special bond that can occur between an author and a listener when the listener decides to trust the author completely. I trusted Mr. Hague not to tell me anything too gross, not to give me nightmares, and to keep me in suspense for hours. He did all that and more. He didn't break that trust, and that's when I knew I really loved him as an author, when I trusted him to entertain me without pushing any of my buttons. I wish there were more authors like this that I trusted this much. There are only a handful.

I guess the worst thing about this book is that I really didn't want it to end. I savored it as best I could for its length of a few hours. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for this honest, if glowing, review, but I'd gladly pay full price for the next one the minute it comes out. I suppose all I can do is ask Mr. Hague to keep on giving us more great horror and suspense stories. Huge fan. Highly recommended.

The Devil's Net by G.M. Hague was a good read. Captain John Boston has been betrayed by the church. His boat hasn't had much luck and now he's on the water one last time trying to get some fish.

I enjoyed listening to this short (wish was longer) story, it was spooky and held my interest. Caption Bishop should have taken the time go get the blessing. It contains ghosts and adventure. Author does well with short horror stories. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank You!

Supernatural at Sea

I like having the author narrate their own stories. This one starts out with his explanation of how this isn't the story of George Clooney on a boat. Which it isn't. Also heard that he has his own studio to record his narration, A little upset I didn't hear frogs or birds in the background.

Nonetheless, the story is great. Haven't heard or watched a good haunted ship story in a while and this one hit the mark. Story is fairly simple but great for a short story. A storm isn't what is coming after these seamen. As always I wish G.M. Hague would make the story longer. Always want to hear more.

G.M. Hague does a great job narrating. Given that he is an Australian author they all take place in Australia. He voices the story perfectly and since this is short I have listened to it a few times. None of his horror stories have to be read in order and I hope you enjoy this author and his stories as much as I do.
