About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
The latest book by STEVEN BARTLETT: entrepreneur, podcaster and Dragon's Den star
This is not a book about business strategy. Strategy changes like the seasons.
This is a book about something much more permanent.
At the very heart of all the success and failure I've been exposed to - both my own entrepreneurial journey and through the thousands of interviews I've conducted on my podcast - are a set of principles that can stand the test of time, apply to any industry, and be used by anyone who is search of building something great or becoming someone great.
These are the fundamental laws that will ensure excellence.
They are rooted in psychology and behavioral science, are based on the wisdom of tens of thousands of people I've surveyed across every continent and age group, and of course, drawn from the conversations I've had on my chart-topping podcast with the world's most successful people.
These laws will work now or in 100 years from now. Are you ready to get started?
With highlights of original interviews from The Diary of a CEO podcast, this enhanced audiobook edition of The Diary of a CEO takes you to the heart of the 33 laws for success.

Story
Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Story
As an 18-year-old, black, broke, lonely, insecure, university drop-out, from a bankrupt family, I wrote in my diary that I wanted to be a 'Happy Sexy Millionaire' by the age of 25. By 25 I was a multi-millionaire having created a business worth over $300m dollars. Ironically, in achieving everything I set out to, I learnt that I was wrong about almost everything... The world had lied to me. It lied to me about how you attain fulfilment, love and success, why those things matter, and what those words actually mean.

Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Have you ever found yourself wondering “Why do I want more than I have?” Michael Easter, author of The Comfort Crisis and one of the world’s leading experts on behavior change, shows that the problem isn’t you. The problem is your scarcity mindset, left over from our ancient ancestors. They had to constantly seek and consume to survive because vital survival tools like food, material goods, information, and power were scarce and hard to find. But with our modern ability to easily fulfill our ancient desire for more, our hardwired “scarcity brain” is now backfiring.

The MANipulator manual. Keep your man interested and begging for more without playing games. So many women get in trouble in their love lives, and 99.9 percent of that trouble could have been avoided if they'd said "Well, f**k him!" a bit more often. Too many women are way too nice and compliant to their men, especially when these men don't deserve that kind of treatment. I, as a dating coach and author of books for women who want to get men, cannot take it anymore.

But if you’ve ever wished you could communicate more effectively, words are the place to start. It’s incumbent upon you to choose the best words to accomplish your goals, because how you choose to communicate influences—well, everything! I am surprised that this doesn't have more reviews. It is an amazing book for aspiring entrepreneurs or simply for anyone interested in personal development.

Thought provoking
Overall good ideas but I found the scrawling marker sound annoying. I’d like Bartlett to write a nuts and bolts book as well, versus overarching strategy. He states he’s started 10 successful startups. How did he choose them? How did he test their viability? How does he budget? How does he manage revenue? How does he test YouTube thumbnails? How does manage an exit? That’s even more interesting to me.

So good I ordered 3 copies
It's been a long time since I've heard an audiobook I could not stop listening to. This book is so good that even some of my latest purchases of audiobooks from Seth Godin seem like a boring intro. Don't get me wrong - I love Seth Godin's work. However, this book is written is such captivating way that I ordered a printed copy (so I can highlight key parts to re-read) and another printed copy translated to my local language (Czech) so I can share it with people who are not fluent in English. This is for sure one of the best books about marketing I've ever listened to.

One of the best all round books I’ve ever read
Steven broke the book down into simple laws and taught them in the most understandable language sighting references from other great people.
He also had a vast amount of knowledge having spent so much time in study and learning.
I recommend this to every person in any stage of their life/career!
This is a must read!!!
