It has gone from a Tristan and Isolde to adding a whodunnit and well-constructed historical fantasy. Characters are not all likeable or villainous because by learning everyone’s motivations it creates some ambiguity.
This is a very complex world and story with many threads to follow, and I’m just understanding it well into the third book. It’s not one you can fully appreciate without starting from the beginning, and it helps if you can read them without a long break in between which was my mistake.
The story seem so to be expanding instead of wrapping up in 3 books - I know there is a 4th one and I hope it’s not a GOT situation.
Narration is good overall with the voices and differentiation of characters. Some of the English-type accents are done poorly at times and mispronunciation of the protagonist Lyana’s name several times towards the end.
Great storytelling that requires attention.
