Publisher's summary

Although not penned as a sequel to The Devil’s Heiress, Dragon’s Bride introduces Con Somerford, Earl of Wyvern. Somerford inherits an earldom on the coast of England, which he has not visited for over a decade. Years of war and estrangement with his father have left him hard and alone and completely undesiring of the title or lands he now holds.

In his absence, the estate became a smuggling center for the local town, led by none other than the girl—now woman—who continues to haunt his dreams. He and Susan Kerslake only knew each other for two weeks when they were both adolescents, but the afternoon of passion they shared on the beach beneath the cliffs burned a hole in his heart. The memories of her betrayal torment his mind and even in the wake of all the battles he’s fought, none comes close to his war with her. As he rides in the darkness toward the empty castle, his mind is filled with thoughts of her when he suddenly comes face to face with Susan and her gun as she attempts to protect her fellow smugglers down on the beach. To safeguard her smuggling operation she has taken a job as the housekeeper in the empty castle. But upon his return, Con lets her know he expects her to perform the duties for which she is paid.

Every tense moment between them is electrifying as old wounds are ripped open and healed by the power of love. The sensuality and sexual tension between this couple is just what Beverley’s fans have come to expect and this truly is a story that will stand out in the minds—and hearts—of romance readers everywhere.

Critic reviews

"[W]hat begins as an apparently simple reunion story but becomes more intriguing and darkly complex as the layers of the plot are cleverly peeled away." ( Library Journal)

Slow

I just cannot get into this one. The story just isn’t grabbing me and I can’t get into the characters.

Well, not the greatest but OK

I chose this book because of the reader. The storyline was pretty cluttered, and you just wanted the story to end. Thankfully, it eventually did.

Least interesting Rogue

Con is nowhere near as interesting as the rest of the Rogues. I gave the story a chance but I couldn't see him as a Rogue.

Dragons, Dragons, Everywhere!!

Here we meet Con Somerford One of the three Georges. This is not a sequel to the The Devil’s Heiress but it is a prequel. If you like Jo Beverly’s a Company of Rogues this is a recommended listening. I read the book and then purchased the audiobook it is so much better that just reading, more emotion and more understanding of Con and Susan’s heartache. You find out about Con’s Dragon tatoo and the other Georges. I loved it because I loved all the characters. And Simon Prebble has won many awards including the golden voice so the. Narration is great. I disagree with the reviewer above about the narrator. You don’t know what will happen until the end and I will not spoil if for you but it is really excellent.

Lovely, lovely, lovely

This book is definitely my cup of tea. I did not expect the events throughout or before the end of the book and the tension in the love kept my interest high. I also have read so many romance books that now I fast forward through the sex scenes but not here. It was done well and I am sorry to see it end. I highly recommend this book

Love the Rogues series.

Great series, good characters intertwined into each book. Dragon’s Bride was too verbose- many long descriptions causing the story to drag.
In the end, the much loved Rogues came through

prequel, not sequel

The event of this novel occur before those of "The Devil's Heiress," not after them as suggested in the Publisher's review printed on this site.

Th'ar be dragons

So the youthful indiscretions haunt these two for 11 years and spoil their 'reunion' . Their interactions are like bumper cars at an amusement park. Fortunately there are plot twists that save them from themselves.

Loved It!

This narrator was great the story came to life in his voice. The relationship between the characters is more complex and layered than that of your typical romance novel. I could not stop listening wanting to know if they would ever work things out, if they would be able to overcome the obstacles in their way. Highly recommend this audio book!
