About this listen

Miss Lucinda Parnell is out of money. A dismal failure at the Marriage Mart, she'd just as soon leave Society far behind. Desperate to earn funds to retire with her grandmother to the country, Lucy disguises herself as a man to gamble in London's hells. But the Earl of Dartford, an Untouchable she never imagined speaking to let alone spending time with, is onto her in a trice. When he insists on acting as her protector, Lucy fears her chance to remain an independent woman is destined to go up in flames.

After losing his entire family, Andrew Wentworth, Earl of Dartford, built a wall to keep attachments at bay. He believed he could keep Miss Parnell safe without compromising his defenses, but she's exciting and irresistible. Their deepening relationship makes him even more determined to push her away. Nothing will stop him from trying to avoid reliving the anguish of loss. Love is the one risk he doesn't have the heart to dare.

I didn’t like this book as much as The Forbidden Duke but it was still a very good read. This was about Andrew, the Earl of Dartford, who suffered from a serious case of survivor’s guilt. His parents, two sisters and his little brother all died within weeks of each other of some kind of fever and he was afraid that loving someone meant losing them and being hurt again. Lucy went about dressed like a man to gaming hells trying to make enough money to move with her grandmother to Bath, after her father had gambled all the money and Lucy and Grandmama were not going to last with what little they had. Needless to say, Andrew figured out she was a woman and wanted to help her, so that became the beginning of their love story. Neither one of them wanted to marry so they thought they made a good team.

Overall, sad, happy, funny and a HEA. I absolutely love Lucy’s friends Aquilla and Ivy. I’ll be glad when their books are on audible so I can listen to them too.

There was explicit sex in this book, but not erotic.

As to the narration: Marian Hussey did a wonderful job with all the voices and emotions. All the men and women alike had their own individual voices.

Great book and awesome narration..

This second installment of The Untouchables is just as good as the first. You won’t be disappointed.

Unusual characters combined with life's challenges made for good reading. Different sexual scenarios than usual all made a delightful story.

Delightful

I loved book one so much that I had to get book two immediately after I finished it. Daring proved equally enjoyable and now I’m off to download the rest of the series. These are absolutely addictive!

Addictive series

Not in a “I wonder what will happen” way, since this is a period romance and it’s always a happy ending, but in a “this book is too enjoyable to ignore” way. I positively loved it. The characters were new and fresh and the drama was well thought out. Way better than the first in the series, in my opinion and 10/10 would recommend.

Couldn’t put it down...

The Duke of Daring is a marvelous story from start to end. It captivates the imagination, fills one with the desire to constantly see the remaining story unfold, and gives the hope of a satisfying conclusion. If ever a book I’d love to see as a romance movie, this would be it. It’s an adventure I recommend to anyone who loves romance novels.

Adventurous!!

Darcy Burke is a creative story teller and masterful at character development. In this book and in others of this series, Darcy spins the tale and Marian Hussey interprets and tells the story. I really enjoyed hearing The Duke of Daring and found the characters entertaining but with depth and humanity. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is I found the dialogue a bit immature at times. I do recommend this book and will listen to it again...and again. Thank you Darcy and Marian for a lovely 8 hrs and 12 mins.

Well-written, well-developed characters

This story could have been so much better if the h/h were having an adventure together without constantly saying how they did not want to marry. I got tired of hearing it. Ok, say it a few times, but not continually. That got old. It would have been so much better if they let themselves enjoy the moments without the handwringing.
I think Darcy Burke is a promising author. I hope she will let her characters enjoy their adventures together without inserting so much repetitive angst.
