About this listen

What is right is not always easy. For High Prince Altair and Prince Consort Whelan, this is a lesson hard-learned in the wake of the human magician Medwyn’s attacks on Avalon. A deadly pestilence stalks the land, and old enemies stand at the gates of the Palace of Night, ready to pull them down. As they fight to retain the balance between what is good and what is right, one of them will be taken, and both will be changed forever.

Are they strong enough together to survive separation? Avalon itself may have the final say.

This novel contains some mature content.

Exceeding the promise of the first book of the trilogy, W. Dale Jordan's 'The Eagle and the Trembling Vessel' is better than I'd hoped and so much more than I'd expected. Beautifully narrated by Keval Shah, whose lovely accented English and well-enunciated speech, has become the very voices of the elves of Avalon. The series is no rehash of Tolkien's work. As is the case with the first book, Jordan has crafted a book all his own with this sequel being every bit as powerful and beautiful as the first.
The rich textures of Avalon are thoroughly communicated in the narrative as the writer uses descriptive text effectively. As with the first book, I could 'see' the colors and objects, 'feel' the water and wind, and 'hear' the many sounds of the fascinating world the writer crafted. There is quite a bit of excitement in direct opposition to the peace of Avalon that confronts High Prince Altair and Prince Consort Whelan. In combating problems on several different fronts, the couple is separated and endure their individual challenges.
As with the first book, the character development is impeccable as the reader is able to see genuine growth, which occurs throughout the book as well as from book to book. The pacing of the book is incredible with a great balance of events that drive the narrative forward. Actions scenes are tempered by those quieter, more tender moments in the book. In addition, the writer is careful to use only enough words to tell the story expertly--there is no wordiness to pad the word count, mask bland spots, or disguise plot weaknesses. Keval Shah's vocalizations are appropriate and entirely suitable for each of the book's characters--none are overdone or over-the-top. W. Dale Jordan made an excellent choice of reader for his 'The Eagle and Heart Trilogy'. Very well done!

Narrator Keval Shah is ABSOLUTELY wonderful! Wow!
