About this listen
Having passed his first test at the Academy, most believe Tolan has proved he belongs. Only Tolan knows the truth: that his shaping required power from the borrowed bondar — and possibly from the elementals themselves. If he can’t find a way to shape without one, he’ll be expelled from the Academy.
When he intervenes to stop another attack on the city, he once again finds himself in the middle of the battle between Terndahl and the Draasin Lord. Worse, because of his continued reliance on the bondars, he begins to fear he might be responsible for releasing elementals.
Another test approaches. For him to remain at the Academy, he must find real power within himself, but a greater challenge distracts him. With increased attacks on the city, Tolan might be the only one to know what they’re after — and how to stop them.

The power of the elements can be complicated to master. Most reach it through the element bonds, ways of connecting to and shaping power that allowed the nation of Terndahl to thrive for centuries. After quitting her job as a therapist, Tess's life became pretty slow. A tad boring, even. It thus came as no small shock to her when she was chosen by a god. Suddenly thrust into a new world where magic, monsters, and character levels are par for the course, Tess will find that simply surviving can be a challenge. It doesn't help that dark forces are stirring, she's woefully underpowered, and spiders keep trying to claw her face off.

Story
Alex Verus is part of a world hidden in plain sight, running a magic shop in London. And while Alex's own powers aren't as showy as some mages, he does have the advantage of foreseeing the possible future-allowing him to pull off operations that have a million-to-one-chance of success. But when Alex is approached by multiple factions to crack open a relic from a long-ago mage war, he knows that whatever's inside must be beyond powerful.

Wow
If you wanna read a book were the mc has no common sense and no survival instinct this is your book! The mc has insane amounts of internal monologue, he shares his thoughts with his friends they express some logic and reason and he just does it anyway…. This book depicts modern day youth perfectly complete and utter lack of common sense …minus the cool magic … if you get rid of all the repetitive nonsense I’d bet you would only have 3 books ..

interesting but slightly repetitive
I found the content engaging and the story line interesting for the most part but the writer felt the next to explain without end exactly what Tolan was thinking every second of his existence. I would have liked some things to be left to the imagination to avoid repetition...but overall a great story so far. With that said, I will be purchasing book three shortly

no real explanation
this was a struggle to finish, the author doesn't seem to be able to put intangible ideas into words.

Tiresome
I just can't stand the protagonist...... I can't I can't I can't is his catchphrase. This kid is a weak beta quitter, who is also suprisingly lazy and entitled. You wouldn't think this kid grew up in hardship, but rather was babied his entire childhood.
The writer also just cut and pasted Harry Potter, but Harry Potter is more spineless and needy. Even the protagonists friends and the antagonist are cut and paste.
