Publisher's summary

A return of a long defeated threat changes everything for a master of the elements.

The power of the elements can be complicated to master. Most reach it through the element bonds, ways of connecting to and shaping power that allowed the nation of Terndahl to thrive for centuries. Few can reach power of their own, an ancient way of holding magic the elemental warriors of old possessed.

As spirit master, Tolan teaches how to use the power of the element bonds, but he knows a greater truth. Connected to power of his own, Tolan can use that, along with his bond to the elementals, in ways others cannot.

When a threat all thought long ago defeated returns, Tolan finds his service to the Academy will require more than a master of spirit. Stopping this threat requires an ancient elemental warrior, but what if even that magic is not enough?

The Shape of Fire is the start of an exciting fantasy adventure series.

Solid, But Not Without Flaw.

I remember really liking the Elemental Academy series and it was great to find that the story continued. However, as I start to recollect the specifics, I'm curious if Farrah was always the whiny, oblivious naysayer. It's impossible to see why he would be interested in keeping her around when he proves time and again that he has more insight than most. And I've noticed that this continues, at least part way, into the next book where she wants him to prove he cares for the academy, but also wants him to leave much to grandmaster or the inquisitors. She just has such a grating personality. It's the main distraction in this story.

Great series, but too much repetition

I do really like these series of books including The first series, Elemental Academy, but the author has the main character repeat certain phrases, such as the one referring to “imagination” and other comments too many times. You could use the repetitions in that drinking game where everyone drinks every time a certain word or phrases are said.

Way too much repetition

I would enjoy these stories more if the author would stop repeating the same comments. Literally have to listen at an increased speed.
