About this listen

ONE BIG FAT LIE AND A FEW TWISTED TRUTHS

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing—pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down. Well, as luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal—and everyone knows the truth but him!

I originally pick this audio book up excepting Just a retelling of the Anime, yet gain more insight into Shadows mindset already from Pre-isekai and afterwards other character like Gemma or Beta was flesh out more than the Anime. So TlDR: Worth it even if you already seen the Anime.

New insignt for Anime only people

I have to say, I really enjoyed this. If you are not familiar with the Japanese idea of chuunibyou, it is basically a syndrome where adolescents suffer from delusions of grandeur or having special powers that make them special in some way. Ourmain character here is a post boy for this, only he truly works hard to make it a reality and, when he eventually dies and gets reincarnated into a world that actually has magic, he gets to truly revel in this role.

The funny thing is, a lot of the made up crap he pretends to be the truth turns out to be accurate and the subordinates he has accumulated treat him like a god because of his skill and knowledge, but really half the time he is just lucky. That aspect reminds me of the Overlord series.

At any rate, this is such a a fun, tongue-in-cheek romp of a story. It leans into many anime tropes and just has fun with them. And the MC, he is fun to watch because he just doesn't give a damn about most anything, but he still has enough morals to help and protect the few people he cares about, if only to keep them in his story. Bring on the next book!

So Great!

Story is very gripping and elaborate. the world building is pretty solid. I like how the story doesn't revolve around the main character and then it does. it gives the other character depth

Story is amazing

if you like the anima then you will not be disappointed. the reader does a good job with both male and female voices and the story tells stuff that is not shown in the series.

well done

This is definitely worth the read for anyone who enjoys isekais but wants something a bit different. There's more and less and different between the novel, manga and anime, but in my opinion it all adds to the experience. Give it a read and see for yourself.
