Reincarnated as a sentient weapon with memories of his past life, but not his name, a magical sword saves a young beastgirl from a life of slavery. Most light novels with anime where the audiobook isn't narrated by somebody from the anime disappoint me. This one did not. Josh Hurley does a great job. Especially impressive as a solo narrator. I never cringe at any of his voices, and I haven't yet found myself wishing there was a woman to narrate the female voices.

Great narration, great story

I have to confess that I had watched the anime adaptation before listening to this so maybe my opinion of it is biased since I liked the anime so much. The anime is very close to the light novels here, and both are quite good. I will warn you, though, that the first quarter of this book covers the sword's time alone before meeting Fran, so those of you that are anxious to meet the cat girl will have to be patient. Still, that part of the story is interesting enough, I suppose, but it is mainly just fighting. When the story does finally move on to the sword meeting Fran, things really pick up. Fran is pretty adorable and fearless. She is also quite young, so I'm glad the sword isn't creepy and thinks of Fran like a daughter more than anything. They both work together well and have good chemistry together. And, of course, a little twelve year old cat girl holding her own against dangerous monsters while wielding a high end sword definitely gets her noticed. I definitely think it is worth a listen of you are a light novels fan.

Cute and Simple

The name made me lump it in with all the other generic Isekai slop like smartphone and vending machine, shows that try to get by on the concept alone. This one however genuinely shocked me with how well done everything is. The story is refreshingly old school, the relationship between the two main characters is wholesome and treated respectfully, the side characters are enjoyable, and my god does the narrator have fantastic range!

Went in expecting nothing, came out pleasantly surprised!

If they didn't want to say the word cockroach, they could have just said roach. they didn't have to go with the infinitely awkward c-roach. This made me irrationally annoyed every time they said it.

The writing quality also took a bit if a nosedive in this book.

Did they really need to censor the word cockroach?

The anime made me choke up, often. The book did not. It simply didn't have the same impact. Plus the narrator sounds like he's a streamer the way he just seems to over do things. Kinda like a game show host I guess. His verve or tenor is just,,, annoying.

The book does cover more things than the anime does, the anime is just more impactful, the book tells you that Fran gets hurt a little, but the anime show you just how badly she gets hurt, but still keeps on fighting against all odds. The anime made me want to spend time with my daughter. The book just made me want to refund my credit.

And lastly, although I can't find the review now (I reported it for being a lie, but not sure if anything was actually done about it) the reviewer claimed the anime was full of F-bombs, that is a out right lie. If you watched and and saw F-bombs, stop being a tourist and watching fan subs. They're NEVER accurate and if you weren't a tourist you'd know the difference.

One of the few times the anime is MUCH better
