Eizo is a middle-aged, overworked software engineer who loves cats.

One night after working late, he saves an injured cat from a speeding truck. The cat survives, but Eizo does not...

Luckily, that cat turns out to be a god-like being who offers him a second chance in another world! Eizo decides that he wants a slower life, one where he can live off the things he creates with his own hands. So, why not become a blacksmith? He does have one other stipulation: a cat companion for his quiet life.

These requests are granted, and Eizo is whisked away to a new world and imbued with blacksmithing knowledge. He soon finds out that his abilities are above average—in fact, his new skills are so overpowered that they're like cheats. On top of that, his cat companion turns out to be a half-tiger girl!

Eizo's blades soon garner attention, and he realizes that he can turn the tides of battle with his forge and hammer. With so much commotion in store, will Eizo truly be able to enjoy a quiet life?

The reader was fine. I don't know if it was a translation issue or not but there was a lot of detail about dumb things. Also, very early there was a red flag for me. when the author is like "of the 2 remaining doors one or them had to be a bedroom, however one was an office." that is not exact but the however one was an office... the other was a bedroom. Why a however, it's written like word count was the only goal. I wanted to like this, I did. the writer seems to have never even did a 5 minute google of black smiting

To much detail about the wrong stuff.

The voice actor is good overall but idk what posed them to make the anointing screams it was just annoying an pulled me out of my immersion 🥲

Random screaming...

The character development is well done and unlike many "Harem RPG's", It's not full of sex. All the characters are about mutual development. The narration is extra-ordinary.

A FUN RPG WITH A TWIST

The book is exactly as advertised. A slow life as a blacksmith with most of the focus on the day to day of the MC without an over reliance on small details.

The Narrator was new to me but did an exceptional job with only a few minor stumbles on word use. The range of voices are distinct and the female characters are convincingly done.

Very enjoyable as a relaxing listen while I worked.

Slow Life but good story

This is a fun slice-of-life isekai book. The characters are interesting, there is a fair bit of humor and the stakes are low. If you, like me, loved “Beware of Chicken” and “Legends and Lattes” you also enjoy this book.

The downside is that this book is short. 6.5 hours for the 1st book and a 1 hour preview of the 2nd book. There really needed to be another 2 hours at least because the story seemed to end a bit abruptly with a few plot threads unresolved.

The 1 hour preview helped somewhat but it really feels like book 1 and 2 needed to be combined to make a good story. Overall I would recommend because it was a fun story. But I would start with a different book if this is your first time reading a slice-of-life isekai book.

It'd be better titled the 40 year old overworked virgin. No. Like seriously. It is definitely a cozy listen, but it left me feeling really bad for a japanese corporate worker.

Edit: The book is only 6.5 hours! I have never had an Audible that gave an hour preview of the next book! Honestly kind of dirty. I was enjoying the epilogue credits.

The Japanese corporate worker lives a hard life.
