About this listen
Carlotta Moran, a young single mother with three children, suddenly has her life turned upside down when she begins to be attacked in her bed each night, violated by a spectral rapist. This brutal unseen force makes attempts on her life and terrorizes her children, but the worst part is that no one believes her. Among the skeptics is psychiatrist Dr. Sneidermann, who believes Carlotta is psychotic, a danger to herself and her children who should be committed. But two graduate students in parapsychology have a different theory: That Carlotta is being tormented by a powerful entity from beyond our reality, outside space and time. The tension builds to an electrifying conclusion, and the truth may be far more frightening than any of them ever imagined...
Based on documented real-life events that happened to a California woman in 1974, Frank De Felitta's provocative and disturbing novel The Entity (1978) is a classic of occult literature. Like De Felitta's Audrey Rose (1975), which sold more than 2.5 million copies, The Entity was a worldwide best seller, and was also adapted for a 1982 film starring Barbara Hershey.

Story
First published in 1989 and taking place in downtown Toronto, one of the earliest of the modern urban fantasies, Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light is the story of a fight against encroaching darkness by a developmentally handicapped young woman, a street musician with no idea of his potential, a bag-lady who's tired of picking up the pieces, and an adept of the light. Mixing actual Toronto ghost-stories with traditional Faire, a police procedural, and a cat, Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light opened a gate at street level to the urban fantasy that followed.

great suspense drama in the paranormal.
well written storyline buildup of characters with a definite conclusion. i have struggled for years to find time to read this title in hard copy format due to.my own schedule conflicts. I'm grateful for the audible format which allows me to listen while I'm at work and driving.

the awful narration
The story is good. I recall seeing the movie years ago. The book goes into a lot more detail which is good.
Let's discuss the HUGE problem with this audiobook.... the narrator. I agree with others comments on the narration. To me, she's either so monotone to the point I'm falling asleep behind the wheel (not good).Or the narrator sounds like she's talking with a big smile on her face. Nothing worse than hearing the brutality of the story described by someone who sounds like she has a big grin on her face. ugh!
It's really quite unnerving after a while.

Great read!
It builds slowly but it's worth it. If you've seen and liked the movie, you'll, for sure, like the book.

Great Story, BAD NARRATOR
Good storyline and I did see the movie, which left out a lot about Carlada.
Sadly she was a really bad alcoholic and was dealing with depression and ptsd. She was on medication, but the Doctors warned her about mixing alcohol and her meds. She also suffered from sleep walking and night terrors.
Taking all that in one must question what was real and what was instigated by the mental illness, medications, nightmares and the rest. She was poor as well and in the end did get money for the sale of her story and then the movie as well.
The story got 4 stars and would have gotten 5 stars, but for the AWFUL narrative!!! She SERIOUSLY lacked the ability to show the fear in her reading. The scary parts, attacks and fear was NOT conveyed AT ALL in her reading of the story. In my opinion she was the worst for this genre!!! She couldn't take me there, into the story and bring up the intense fear one WOULD feel when being told about the ghost attacks.
4 stars for story
1 star for narrator and I would have given it a zero if able.

UGH!!!
I enjoyed the movie very much and was thrilled when I discovered it at Audible! I spent a credit (a complete waste of my free credit), waited for it to load and hit “Play.”
WHAT A DISASTER!!!
The story is very good…..I think. The problem is - the narrator has such an unpleasant voice, I only made it to chapter 4 and I can’t take anymore. This narrative is flat, monotone and NOT a good voice to begin with! DAMNIT!! I was so excited….apparently for nothing! (I’m going to attempt to return it and get my credit back.)

Disappointed confused
The book started off good but then as it went along it got more confusing. By the time the book was over I was even more confused. Not worth the price.
