About this listen

Strange people are about to plummet into Riven Wrangleman's, monster-filled, so far peaceful life.

F-Rank foot soldier Riven Wrangleman found people stuck in pods. And now, those people are dangling above his head.

A mouse woman, a bat woman, and three anthropomorphic camel people, these five Demons bring with them incredible new glimpses into the state of the world for those lost on the island, namely Riven, Lucerein, and Enkriah.

The new information is all well and good, but it doesn't change Riven's goals. He's still being slowly poisoned by the island, and his camp could still use some improvements. No amount of world-shaking revelations will alter that.

The new visitors are a welcome change-of-pace, for sure, but it doesn't change the everyday life of Riven the Monster Rancher...

Except Enkriah is intent on making it known that Riven is King of the Monsters, and with that comes friction.

A former foot soldier, a former demon lord, an undead elf, a sacred priestess, and her loyal guardians... Surely, they can all get along under the banner of the newly declared King.

Great follow up from the first volume

Really enjoyed the story so far and I’m excited to see what’s in store for Riven and his group in the next volume.

I like pretty much everything about the book I just wish it was longer the pacing the camp building the monster collection and the way the character interact is great

Nearly gave up on the series

The ending fight neatly had me pulling my hair out, at times it felt like a absolute slap in the face. But the end has me hopeful for the next book. I hope that that it gets resolved in the next book, otherwise it makes it feel like a cheap cop out.

Final act is a major potential writing pitfall...

I never write reviews, but this one REALLY pissed me off near the end. I'm not sure if a 3rd book can actually save what happened in the final leg of the book (atleast not for one character) I feel like this is a writing pitfall that can't be climbed out of without ALOT of contrivances and overly convenient plot elements. I get that in a trilogy, because that's what book 3 would make this, that there has to to be a low point, and a struggle... but this? You have to be REALLY careful with how you treat your characters in this genre... because the characters are specifically what create the interest in investing further in the series.

I will buy book 3 when it comes out, if only to see the new development of one of my favorite characters in the story, but what happened with the other was not at all pleasant, and went on for way too long. Of course, it would have been hilarious for that one predatory threat to have been carried out. Even if nothing permanent resulted from it. It would have definitely created long standing trauma for future releases!

Please take my issues from the perspective of someone that tends to re listen to their books. I have many series with 5 or more parts, but I seldom revisit stories that illicit the sentiment the "climax" of this book did. I hate that, because I actually really like ALL of the characters in this series. As a result I'm interested in seeing all of their development and where things go. Perhaps my opinion of the end of this book will change with thee next, but only time will tell. I genuinely want this series to succeed.
