About this listen

Damon Chroi has known the weight of ruling in loneliness for thousands of years. The tall, painfully handsome fae lord was born with so much power, the fae kings not only envied but feared him, and banished him to a forbidden realm to be forgotten. There, he was tasked with ruling over the deadliest creatures known to the fae worlds, and his veritable battle as their sovereign is never-ending. As one of the thirteen Kings, his destiny foretells an end to his solitude with the appearance of an equally powerful queen. But that kind of power is hard to come by. And power or not, Damon can't imagine any woman willingly joining him in the eternal misery to which he has been tasked.Until he meets the beautiful, strong and selfless Diana Piper.Diana has been hiding a potent secret from the world for decades. She was born with abilities others would fight to win, and kill to keep. To make matters worse, she is a sensitive soul who, despite the danger it poses to herself, uses these powers to make the world a better place. Forever in harm's way, overworked and headstrong, Diana one night comes across the ultimate challenge in the form of a wayward fae beast-and in the process, crosses paths with its indomitable king. A light can only shine in the darkness so long before someone takes note of it. And Diana not only manages to gain the instant attentions of Damon Chroi, but of those who would do anything to see him-and the other thirteen Kings-dead.

Excellent Series so far.

What a great series this is. I love it, even though there is hardly any dialogue (I like a lot of dialogue in my books) The stories are still amazing. Its cliffhanger after cliffhanger for this series and since there are going to be 13 books and there are only currently 4 written its now time to wait.

I wish I would have started this series when there were more books written since they leave you hanging every time.

There does seem to be the same premise in this series as far as passion goes, you get 1 sex scene at about 80% through the book and the king and queen have only known each other a day or two. But still the story is very good.

The narration was good.
Credit Worthy? YES they all are.

One my favorite in these series

Would you listen to The Goblin King again? Why?

Yes, I would!!! Better say yes I will listen again. It s romantic, funny, sad and super hot!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Goblin King?

I think for me the fact he like my little pony ( I was just laughing like a craze person) or when the fire element tell him that he is not a peeping flame!! Just to funny

What does Antony Ferguson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Life to the characters specially the goblin king

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he die for her

Any additional comments?

Of the other three books this is my favorite the story was not so long that I got bored

Great Series

Would you listen to The Goblin King again? Why?

The story and characters are well developed and it is different than other series that I read. I don't know why the other books in the series are not available.

Finally things are adding up!

Now that I am used to the writing style and understanding the story is building, I am enjoying the story like a soap opera. Little cats and portals equal the secret to be revealed in the next book. I really like the queens!

I EAGERLY AWAIT THE NEXT & THEY NEVER DISAPPOINT

This story, like all the previous ones, will captivate you from the very start as HKW's imaginative paranormal world of the Kings starts you can't help but become emotionally involved in the unfolding awesome plots and feel part of all the delicious gripping drama.

Damon (who is an exiled Fae Prince) and Diana's intense, emotional, exciting and very enjoyable story was sweet, passionate, romantic, funny, thrilling, sad, dramatic and, as you savour every chapter, another twist, turn or unseen shocking revelation or event will appear that just blows you away.

HKW's stories always involve great characters that you can connect and sympathise with, root for, and, in the end celebrate alongside as the action-packed storyline takes you on an intense world-building journey that'll leave you spent and speechless. There's also lots of interaction with the other Kings and a glimpse of the next Queen/s together with the slowly but surely unfolding 'bigger picture'.

The unsung hero is, of course, Antony Ferguson whose talented range of voices magically transforms and brings mere words to intense pulse-pounding life.

Worth a credit? Oh what talent HKW has and, as a thank you, I will happily spend my credits on her very deserving books - so that folks is a finger-licking Mmm Mmm Mmm or to translate - a YES.

Loved it

When are you going to come out with the next book?! I am really looking forward to seeing what you put the Brothers through and how different the two queens will be.

Parts of this were a very good story.

But it needed tightening up.

The characters were interesting. I liked the main couple’s interaction. There was a very hot sex scene - had me smiling. There was a purple prose quality. Using excessively sexy/attractive adjectives was fun and campy. For example: Instead of saying he put his arm around her to open the door. It said he put his sculpted arm around her...

But, I marked it down to 3 stars due to disorganization and backtracking. I was very unhappy with jumping around. It was confusing, disorganized and hard to follow. Here’s an example.

Diana interacts with a group of boys. Scene switches to Roman a vampire doing things. Scene switches to a Guy from his POV. He meets a girl, they talk, he’s surprised she can see him since normal humans cannot. (I don’t know the name of this girl.) Scene switches to Roman. Scene switches BACK IN TIME a couple hours to Diana. She meets a Guy, they talk, etc. and I realize it’s repeating the former scene - it was Diana who was the girl that the Guy met. This is the same scene from her POV. (confusing, disorganized, hard to follow). Scene then switches to Ophelia and werewolves. Scene switches back to Diana and the Guy who fight bad guys. Diana’s friend is also in that fight. After the fight, we go BACK IN TIME and see Diana’s friend and what happened to her up until the fight.

After reading this, I read a Neil Gaiman childrens book. It was so comforting because everything was in chronological order. Scene switches to other characters were fine because they were in chronological order. Each scene moved the story ahead. Why do so many authors of grown-up novels think jumping around is good writing?

I think the author should have dropped the werewolf scenes. There were a few of them. They felt like interruptions. There was no story about them. It was like “don’t forget there are werewolves in this world.”

I was confused about the bad guys. I wanted to know more about who they were, their motivations, and what happened to them at the end of this book. But I’m guessing this is something being developed through the entire 13 book series. Maybe more was done with that in prior and future books. This is the only book in the series I read.

AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Antony Ferguson is excellent.

Goblins and spiders and goats, oh my!

Fantabulous narration by Antony Ferguson. Superb performance.

The illustration shows a chess board. This excerpt explains the image: "The 13 Kings are destined to meet thirteen very special women,” Damon said. “These women will become our queens. And just as they are on a chess board, each queen will become even more powerful than her husband."

So, there will be 13 queens, more powerful than their kings, banding together to fight the emerging dark power that only obscure in this book. Apparently, more sequels will be forthcoming. The author better get her story said soon; this is already book 4 and the big bad is too elusive.

I jumped into the middle of the series, because I have a thing for goblins. This plot isn't as suspenseful, nor as grim-dark, nor as engrossing as Dunkle created in her goblin king romantic adventure for young adults, The Hollow Kingdom. (I loved that book!) But this book is still fairly engrossing -- some parts are quite captivating -- and maybe a cut above.

Contents: One explicit sex scene (not a tender scene), some violence, a handful of religious swear words and other curse words (could do without that). I didn't notice any typos in the e-book that went along with my audiobook.

The writing style is fairly well developed. The dialogue is credible and at times witty. (My Little Pony, etc.) Thankfully, no guilt-tripping, and minimal mental reflection (down time). Nothing special in the romance itself. I didn't feel the love. But still, an entertaining listen, and some parts are engrossing. I liked the fire spirit. The death scene. The healing.

Quibbles: The 3rd person POV bops around far too much. The scene hopping is the biggest problem. It cost the book a full star. Also, I was a little lost in the first few chapters, because of a prequel-related scene (I didn't read the sequel).

I felt that Ramon the good vampire king and his queen Evie got too much press. The scene with vampire Rafael (Raphael ?) seemed out of context.

The ending wasted my time with a teaser for the next book's queen, as if I had not already guessed. I wanted the epilogue to be set some time in the future -- if only a week ahead -- showing Damon and Diana. These two main characters needed more press.
