About this listen

Can you hide a secret with the whole world watching?

When an explosion rips apart a Chicago building, the lives of three women are forever altered.

A year later, Cecily is in mourning. She was supposed to be in the building that day. Instead, she stood on the street and witnessed it going down, with her husband and best friend inside. Kate, now living thousands of miles away, fled the disaster and is hoping that her past won’t catch up with her. And Franny, a young woman in search of her birth mother, watched the horror unfold on the morning news, knowing that the woman she was so desperate to reconnect with was in the building.

Now, despite the marks left by the tragedy, they all seem safe. But as its anniversary dominates the media, the memories of that terrifying morning become dangerous triggers. All these women are guarding important secrets. Just how far will they go to keep them?

Stupendous

Author Catherine McKenzie twists and weaves the plot so deftly that I could hardly turn off my car as I listened on audio. Here is a novel of intricate suspense and profound insight into human nature

Uneven narration

The story was interesting enough to keep me listening to the end, but some of the narration was really annoying. There are more than one people reading this, and I guess it was just one of the female voices that had an irritating habit of over-enunciating every syllable. It was very distracting. Only a computer generated voice gives as much emphasis to the word “and” as this lady does.

A thriller that keeps you guessing until the end

This thriller is interesting and worth reading. It is well written, avoids clichés, soft porn and graphic violence.
The plot centers on the fallout of a catastrophic incident and the impact on the survivors and their families. Most importantly, the narrative involves two families with intertwined stories. Two voices of two women reveal many secrets. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end.

Interesting but strange.

I liked this, but I was strange and depressing and sad, along with the mystery..why? That needed to be answered. Once read and would not re-read again.

In an Instant

10/10/10 is a tragedy that sweeps three Chicago women into its wake. Building new lives, discovering old secrets, they all pursue new goals. Great characters, a wry voice, and a crackling plot are all complimented by superb narration.

Great twisty book!

Boy this book ended up different than I thought it would. Several times it twisted and revealed. Definitely recommend if you like slow burn plot twists.

A VERY good liar

Everyone tells lies. Some lies are too impossible to tell.
This had me guessing till the end. Great wrap up!

Amazing...

In reading some of the prior reviews, I almost didn’t buy this book. Sooooo glad I did. It was gripping, surprising, and twisted! Yes, there were a few times I jumped to accurate conclusions, but more times I was caught off guard. LOVED IT!

The picture started it all.

Story of a Chicago business fire that changed the lives and families of the victims. The accident caused some of the characters to change there lives and destiny. A new identity causes you to lie about yourself. Reviewing your life in middle age causes you to recall both bad and good things. A photographer caught a shot that made made her the face of this tradgety. Narration was good and the story kept you involved. I really enjoyed the story.
