Publisher's summary

Get ready for a new series that brings listeners deeper into the lush, romantic, and puzzle-filled world of the #1 bestselling Inheritance Games series (over 3 million copies sold!), set a year after we last saw Avery and the Hawthornes.

Seven tickets. An island of dreams. The chance of a lifetime.

Welcome to the Grandest Game, an annual competition run by billionaire Avery Grambs and the four infamous Hawthorne brothers, whose family fortune she inherited. Designed to give anyone a shot at fame and fortune, this year’s game requires one of seven golden tickets to enter. With millions on the line, those seven players will do whatever it takes to win.

Some of the players are in it for the money. Some for power. Some for reasons all their own. Every single one of them has secrets. Amidst it all is Grayson Hawthorne, tasked with a vital role in this year’s game. But as tensions rise and the mind-bending challenges push the players to their limits—physically, mentally, and emotionally—it soon becomes clear that not everyone is playing by the rules.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Lynn Barnes delivers a brand-new series in the world of The Inheritance Games, where fan-favorite and new characters collide in a game you’ll never forget.

Hard to put down

this book was hard to stop listening to. What would happen next. Would puzzles be solved, would secrets be told, would people get to the shore. But the end the end all I can say is WHY!!!!!. You have to read to understand the why.

The plot thickens and the backstory is told! Love more of this story

Such a good unwinding of back stories of characters throughout the series and another twisted game to unravel to be a part of! Absolutely loved it and recommend!

The grandest game

I enjoyed seeing hearing Lyra perspective in the book and I also think that they should’ve had Grayson’s perspective with her and I would also enjoyed Avery’s perspective but overall of the book in the pot really good I would just like to know about more characters

All the riddles & twists to keep you guessing.

Kept all the characters from all previous books & added new ones to keep you all hooked. Definitely another wonderful book added to the series.

Exciting New Series!!

This is a good first book in a new series. It is a spinoff of the Inheritance Games series, and the reader hopes for some connections to the characters we have grown to love. There isn't as much of that as I might have liked, but that is mainly because Barnes had to introduce the new characters. I look forward to the next book—hopefully soon!!

Perfect addition to the series!

The story is so enticing I couldn’t put it down. My favorite thing I’ve read all year. Such a pleasure to jump back into this story from a different angle! Narration is very well done, pacing of speech and story is perfect

Meh

Hated the cliffhanger I didn’t know it was or I would have waited. Decent but not as good as the rest of the series.

And then?!

Love this. Can’t wait to read more! And the Hawthorns! Yup! A little confusing for a second, but got it.

Interesting Twist to the Story

I only learned of The Inheritance Games series in November 2023. I read the first four books within a couple of days time. I was excited to learn there was another book in works, and I pre-ordered The Grandest Game on Audible. At the time I didn't know it was a spin-off of the original series. I finished it within 24 hours time, but I was disappointed that the book ended in what seems to be halfway through the storyline of this particular story. Yes, it was a cliffhanger, but the previous stories had cliffhangers, this felt more like only half the story had been told.
I found myself thinking I would need to listen to this again because I wasn't sure who some of the new characters were. Their introduction wasn't made well. By the end of this book you have a better idea of who they are and their individual motivations, which again points towards half the story.
The next book in the series is set up well, and I imagine all my disappointment will be resolved, however there is an extensive wait for that book completion, and I would have much preferred the entire story at once.
Avery is in the book all of maybe 20 minutes throughout eventhough this is the game she designed. It would have been nice to see some of the behind the scenes work that Avery did with the Hawthornes sprinkled through, maybe a few "Avery" chapters here and there would have be nice. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but I missed many of the characters that made me love the original series.
One of the reviews I read mentioned that there wasn't one character I found myself rooting to win, and I agree with that. As I anticipate the next book, I don't have one character out of the 8, that I hope will win by the completion of next book. The story doesn't seem to live up to the title.
