Publisher's summary

She told him to make himself at home. He did.

Life has been good to Ellie - she owns a successful art gallery, is deeply in love with her husband, Seth, and has two beautiful children, Brandon and Simone.

But not everything is perfect....

Lately, Seth seems to have something on his mind and has become cold and distant. And things don't improve when he invites mysterious stranger Ace to stay in their home.

Ace is charming, but Ellie can't help feeling there's more to him than meets the eye, that he has some kind of agenda. She's also aware that she is dangerously attracted to him.

Then a girl at Brandon's school is murdered, and Ellie is beyond devastated when the police tell her they think her son might be involved.

Ellie knows in her heart that Brandon is innocent and she feels certain that Ace is somehow connected to the disturbing things that are happening. She starts to dig for the truth and uncovers the terrible secret that will change her life in ways she can't imagine....

Terrible Story

***spoiler***

It’s one thing to be a “strong woman,” but it’s another to be a strong woman who put others down and constantly nag and undermine your own husband. It also doesn’t stop there. It’s an okay story, kind of boring and it could get tiresome after the constant whining from beginning to the end of the story. I got through most of it while hiking, otherwise, I wouldn’t finish it.

I wasn't sure

I at no point declared that I figured out the plot. there were moments when I thought I had a good idea and some of those were on point. alas the end was still a surprise.

Twist and turns

This one is full of story lines that keep you guessing. I found myself right but still wrong…

Worst Narrator Ever

I’ve listened to hundreds of audiobooks and this narrator was terrible.
She rushed through the story with monotonous tone.
No emotion at all.

Great story

I don’t want to spoil the end, it’s a great story. Not sure I would do the same but it does show clear determination

Not what was expected

Not at all what I expected based on the description. No likable characters, especially Seth and Ellie. Very slow writing and story telling. No big twists or on the edge of your seat quality to the story. Quite unrealistic too. Left a lot to be desired in a story.

The main character

The main character is just winey and annoying, I stuck it out but man it was a bit hard to get through.

Good story but…

I cannot handle this narrator. Ugh. It ruins the whole book. I kept starting and stopping it, liking the story but wondering if I could get through it with her voice.

It’s the narrator … she’s not good.

I couldn’t even get to the end. The narrator was annoying. And she’s LOUD. SO hysterical! I kept having to adjust the volume. And ALL the characters sounded like her. And I know that’s because it is her, but a good narrator changes their voice. The narrator can make or break a book, and I couldn’t finish it.
The premise sounded good, so maybe I’ll read it on my tablet. But I can’t do anything until I get her voice out of my head.

much ado about nothing

Why all the culinary speak? It was unnecessary and annoying. Feels like a poor version of a Scarpetta novel when it selfishly langishes on long descriptions of what's being cooked. Who cares what they're having for dinner every night or how it's made! Or that she had just had a pedicure. Is it relevant to the overall story?
