About this listen

Sometimes the past just won't stay buried.

When 14-year-old Brittany disappears one night, her parents are devastated, certain she has been taken.

They can't bear to think about who has done this and what might be happening to their precious girl.

Even worse, the police seem to see them as suspects, implying that they may have had a part in their own daughter's disappearance. Only their neighbor, Taylor, is a rock. She organizes search parties, feeds the volunteers, works night and day to help them find Brittany.

But as this affluent California community becomes focused on the hunt for the missing girl, it slowly becomes clear that her disappearance is linked to terrible secrets from the past.

Secrets that must be kept hidden at all costs...

Better Second Half

The second half was much better than the first. Glad I stuck with it but not sure I’ll be jumping right into another book by this author.

Interesting

Throughout the whole book I was rooting for the lesser of two evils until the very end and then I was not rooting for either. I do feel that it ended appropriately though. Set aside from the “all around” parents backgrounds I felt the pain. I am a mother and if my son were to have gone missing I would have been beside myself.

Repetitive dialog

Good story but it is drawn out way too long with repetitive thoughts and dialog

Good Idea But Execution ......

had problems. It was easy enough to follow, but WAY too long. it could have skipped about ten chapters at the end and the sudden violence was weird. Sorry.

Good story

Just when you thought you had the story, something else happened. Characters were not who they seemed. 😊

Unlikable Characters

With the exception of the young girl, I hated or was ambivalent about everyone in the story, and I didn't really care what happened. The story had potential, but the character development was poor, and the pacing wasn't consistent.

Well …

It was entertaining, but it wasn’t realistic. The characters are ridiculous, and their conversations are so forced and cringy. But it starts out great and I was genuinely intrigued wondering what happened to Brittney. It was strange though because her Mother kept saying she was taken right out of her bed. What did she even base that on? And the neighbor! She was desperate for friends and attention. I was embarrassed for her. Then, for me, the storyline goes sideways and I just rolled my eyes. I sped up the book so I could finish it. I’m glad I didn’t buy it, but I’d recommend it as a free book.

Better than expected

Well this was certainly a surprising story. Not at all what I expected. Lots of lies, twists, manipulation, desperation and more. An interesting twist to a missing child story. Told from multiple points of view from the main characters. Easy to follow and worth reading or listening to. Intricate characters and plot. Satisfying ending.
