About this listen

After an epic maiden voyage that introduced Earth to a larger universe—and a cosmos full of terrifying new enemies—Captain Eric Weston and the crew of the NAC spacecraft Odyssey have spent months cooling their heels under their admiral’s watchful eye. But when Earth’s newest ally, the Priminae, strike a defense deal with the North American Confederacy, the Odyssey finally receives her orders: return to Ranquil, the Priminae’s war-ravaged homeworld, and lend badly needed support against the invading Drasin.

Weston and his crew are hungry for action, yet once back on Ranquil, they realize not all is as it seems. Yes, the Drasin are a formidable foe, but Weston suspects a powerful unseen force is waging the war that could alter forever the face of the universe. Determined to unmask the mysterious puppet masters, Weston and his motley crew defy NAC protocol and venture into deep space...where they will discover an enemy unlike any they have ever faced. The long-awaited follow-up to the spectacular Into the Black: Odyssey One combines old-school space opera with modern storytelling to create an exhilarating new sci-fi adventure.

The Mystery Deepens

Book one introduces us to the mysterious human civilization outside the solar system and their war. This novels deepens that mystery and does very little to answer the puzzles revealed in the first novel. I personally found this to be quite frustrating but the narrator did an excellent job making the novel come alive in my imagination and it was still enjoyable in its fashion. I personally prefer books where the main plot point is solved within one or two novels and new and different issues need to be resolved in later novels.

Odessey mission continues NAC support for Priminae

The North American Confederacy Odessey returns to deep space with a mission to assist the Priminae, a human race many galaxies from earth, in their battle to save their worlds from the Drasin. The Odessey delivers an ambassador and Marine trainers from the NAC to the Priminae home world, Ranquil, to establish formal relationships, and help the Priminae prepare their own forces for future battles with the Drasin. The Odessey's other missions include learning more about the Priminae and the Drasin.

The book is filled with detailed sci-fi space and land battles, The Odessey's survival depends of the audacity and military genius of its captain, Eric Weston. Ground battles produce additional heroes among the Odessey's Marine contingent, as they battle an enemy that reproduces as fast as the Marines can kill them.

Great Narration

This narrator is awesome. OK so the accents are a little funny but come on, they're aliens. just remember that it's a foreign language coming through a translator and it makes it kind of endearing.

Once More, into the breach

This is another great book in the story line. It had some more visceral elements, I felt, more so than the first book. Like the first book, I found it hard to put down quite a bit. The action ramps up. I did have a problem with how the action jumps around in the middle of the book, but other than that, it was a good read.
