About this listen

It’s not a crime to steal a heart....

Sophie Roseingrave hates nothing more than a swindler. After her family lost their piano shop to a con man in London, they’re trying to start fresh in a new town. Her father is convinced Carrisford is an upright and honest place, but Sophie is not so sure. She has grave suspicions about silk-weaver Madeline Crewe, whose stunning beauty doesn’t hide the fact that she’s up to something.

All Maddie Crewe needs is one big score, one grand heist to properly fund the weavers’ union forever. She has found her mark in Mr. Giles, a greedy draper, and the entire association of weavers and tailors and clothing merchants has agreed to help her. The very last thing she needs is a small but determined piano-teacher and composer sticking her nose in other people’s business. If Sophie won’t be put off, the only thing to do is to seduce her to the cause.

Will Sophie’s scruples force her to confess the plot before Maddie gets her money? Or will Maddie lose her nerve along with her heart?

I love the revolution of characters and time of history. The feel was true to the era and it was a bitter sheet love and revenge story!

Loved this!!!

As long as Ms. Waite writes these fanciful histories, (histories that we all deserve) and as long as they continue to be narrated so skillfully by Ms Sims then I can promise to keep gobbling them up!. So grateful for these sweet stories in these challenging times.

The story itself was enjoyable but felt a bit simplistic at times, with some repetitive conversations and some parts of the plot leaned too much into an idealized, an idealistic resolution fairly-tale like. The characters were engaging—especially Miss Crewe—but the plot could have been more tightly woven.

The romance was enjoyable, though the spice was brief and sparse for the book’s length. That said, the narrator’s performance was outstanding—her voice and delivery truly brought the story to life and made the reading experience far more engaging. While the book itself didn’t fully meet my expectations, the narration made it worth finishing.

Review for The Hellion’s Waltz – ★★★☆☆ (3.5/5)

Loved this book on so many levels! The plot sucked me in and taught me a bit about history, the main characters were real people with complex humanity, and the sex scenes were delightfully steamy. Olivia earned their 10’s!! Can’t wait to read another of her novels.

Loved it!

It was a cute, fun listen. It seemed a bit short but the lesfic books always are a bit shorter than the others I listen to or read.
The plot was fun and I enjoyed many of the characters even though I just didn't feel any sparks between Maddie and Sophie.
Being born and raised in the US, I don't know how accurate it was regarding the issues of the times etc. but I found it interesting.
The narrator was good enough but the mail voices sounded more fwomen's. sounding than some of the womens.
I'd recommend it.

Great Historical Romance

So overall I liked the heist-y plot, even though it was a smidge unbelievable, it was fun and progressive like the idea of a turn of the century. However am I the only one who is thinking 'Wtf happened to Lucy?'??! And while I appreciated Waspish Widows for implementing more of a push back against queer romance as that would only be logical in the time period, this book does away with that with the characters embracing and kissing and dancing together in public. Part of the appeal is forbidden romance right? maybe I'm being nit-picky but there was just so many holes that this is by far my least favorite in the series. Morag did a great job narrating as always.
