Publisher's summary

She’s a debutante who needs to escape. He’s a homesteader barely scraping by to support his passel of kids. They come from different worlds. Can they find love with each other?

From an Audie award-winning narrator and USA Today best-selling author comes a story of unlikely love and true family togetherness.

About the book:

Pursued by an unwelcome suitor, banker's daughter Penny Castlerock will do anything to escape town and Mr. Abbott's advances - even visit her grandfather's homestead for an undetermined amount of time. Out of her element, she must rely on neighbor Jonas White - and his brood of adopted children.

Scandal chased Jonas out of Philadelphia five years ago - one that socialite Miss Castlerock knows about. Since then, Jonas has kept to himself, worked his homestead, and focused on raising his seven adopted boys and his daughter. The last thing he needs is to be reminded of the past and the young woman he once fancied - especially when she's so far out of his sphere....

As circumstances force the two to work together, their tentative friendship blossoms into something more. But can two people from such disparate backgrounds find true love with each other?

One family will brave the wilderness of Wyoming to fight for their livelihoods...and for love.

The Wyoming Legacy series includes these books:

Sweet story

First, new author, new narrator for me.
When I started listening to the story, I wasn't sure about the voice, but I kept coming back for more because of the story, wanted to know what happens next. It is a sweet story that grew on me and I have to say it is good. Sweet because of Jonas, how his story unfolds and the listener finds out the depth of this sweet, courageous man. He is captivated by Penny and with good reason as she reveals herself to be more than a spoiled banker's daughter. The are a few intense moments where I went OH NO! but it all works out in the end. They both deserve the HEA and more.
I enjoyed listening to Ms. Merlington's various voices and they were many, delivered with heart and feelings appropriate for the characters. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.

Sweet story ; terrible narrator

I read this story in paperback and really enjoyed it. I looked forward to listening. So horribly disappointed because the narrator’s lead male voice sounded like a VERY old man. It was fine for the grandfather and Abbott but NOT for a young man in his 20’s. Gringe worthy at best. I did finish it though so I gave the overall book a 4. Lacey Williams is a good story teller and this is a sweet, clean romance.

Complete Joy

What a breath of fresh air this book is. Lacy Williams brings the old west to life with Jonas and Penny on their journey to love. Penny is from a wealthy family and her father is arranging her marriage to a man that she dislikes. Penny, to get away from the situation, takes advantage of the opportunity to go help her grandfather. She and her brother Sam ride there with Jonas, her grandfather's neighbor. We meet his daughter Briana, who has a seizure on the trip home and Jonas is impressed with Penny's compassion with his daughter. Over the next several weeks, we meet Jonas's 7 sons, learn of the heard work it takes to run things and see Penny acclimate to homestead living. Throughout her time there, Sam also has some growing that he does. Some disasters begin happening around the homestead that are devastating to Jonas and things deteriorated. I love the way Lacy Williams portrays this love story, how the relationship grows and changes, the interaction with all the boys(they we all so lovable, and their stories heart wrenching to heart warming!) and how when you find your soulmate, it doesn't matter where you come from.Lacy Williams has a winner.

As always, Laural Merlington gives a perfect narration. She was one of the first narrators I ever listened to and she can read any genre and entrench you into the story.

Heart warming and sweet

I loved this book. I'll admit, I have a soft spot for books like this one. The differences in social circumstances, the difference in ways of life, the time this was set in, it all combines to make this the perfect read for me. Then throw in some orphans and a stoic, caring, slightly awkward man and this book goes to whole other level of a great read for me. I listened to it almost continuously all day only stopping to nap and to spend a few hours with my family. I was sad when it was over. I will be listening to this one again.

The characters are wonderfully written. They are full of emotions, self doubts, and general worries. They are so easy to care for. The romance was well developed, taking its time. There are enough little surprises and hitches along the way that, even though I knew how it had to end, I still felt nervous as to what might happen.

The narration was spot on. I really enjoyed the voice and felt it fit well with the story. Good enunciation, good pacing, and great emoting made for a fun audio experience.

Well written and performed

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This was an interesting book, and worth my time. The characters were realistic and added to the story. I will be looking for more titles by this author .

Sweet and enduring

Loved how the author brings about a change of mind in Penny, and a softening of the heart in her sweetheart.

Money can't buy love

I liked the plot of this story of a spoiled woman who goes to help her farmer grandfather
and ends up learning that hard work and helping others is more important than fancy dresses and parties especially when she ends up helping her grandfather's handsome and noble but poor Neighbor trying to get his homestead up and running and keep his adopted children cared for. Can they have a relationship coming from different backgrounds? The narrator was good but her voice is more suited for older characters.

The Homesteader's Sweetheart

This was my first book by Lacy Williams that I had read, and I quickly fell in love with all the kids. When I saw it in audible, I had to have it. Nicely done. Good clean romance.

Clean historical romance

Any additional comments?

This has more of a character build up compared to other books of the same genre. You get to know the characters really well and how they change as the story progresses. It is about family, friendship, trust, change, understanding and romance, of course.
I really liked the family element and how they reacted to Penelope when she and her brother came to stay and help their grandfather. You get a few twists in the story which keeps it interesting.
I would recommend this book to everyone since it is suitable for all.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audio book at no charge by the author, publisher, and/or narrator
