About this listen

Supreme Court candidates are being murdered—and only Alex Cross and John Sampson can take the case in The House of Cross.

“[Alex Cross’s] innate nature is to protect people…If he has a weakness, it’s his family, especially his children. They’re the chink in his armor. But aside from that, it’s tough to get at him.”–Aldis Hodge, star of Cross on Prime Video

In Washington, DC, the president-elect is planning her inauguration.

The list of Supreme Court candidates is highly confidential—until it becomes evidence in Detective Alex Cross’s toughest investigation.

One candidate is gunned down. A second is stabbed. A third is murdered near midnight on a city street.

Cross is the FBI’s top expert in criminal behavior. For the sake of his family, his city, and his country, he must put himself in the most dangerous place there is: inside the mind of a diabolical killer.

A little unbelievable

I enjoy the Cross series, but this one seemed a little out there in the reality of this happening. It’s a great story but definitely fiction.

Great story!

Dear Mr. Patterson,
Please don’t kill any other main characters because you feel the story is going stale.
This story was a excellent update to the Alex Cross series but some will say it’s not a major development in the series. That’s false! It’s a awesome story with a lot action and investigation. Alex, John, bri or Ned are great and don’t require more character development for at least 3 more books. Them as a squad is what your team have dreamed about and you have a opportunity to tell a story of a Super Sleuth team with very little red tape. Please lean into that angle you hinted at. Thank you in advance and awesome work in general.

The tension of the action

Good from the start. Interesting plot. Good ending. The characters are well established from previous episodes

It’s a fun ride, but a little predictable.

These latest books have been all about the crime to solve. Patterson has forgotten about the soul of these characters. I loved when Alex would play the piano and nana would experiment in the kitchen, when Ali and Janny had stories within the story. Bring back the soul of these characters James!!!

All that to say, the story is fun, but convenient.

Quick short chapters, kept your attention throughout the book.

I really liked the ensemble cast of narrators. You were able to really dive into the different characters. The story moved at a fast pace with short chapters, but not so fast that you would get lost. Pretty action packed storyline, no lulls in the story at all.
