About this listen

Continuing the milestone 50th anniversary celebration of Star Trek - an epic new trilogy that stretches from the events of The Original Series movie The Search for Spock to The Next Generation!

The Klingon-Federation alliance is in peril as never before. Lord Korgh has seized control of the House of Kruge, executing a plot 100 years in the making. The Klingon cult known as the Unsung rampages across the stars, striking from the shadows in their cloaked Birds-of-Prey. And the mysterious figure known as Buxtus Cross launches a scheme that will transform the Klingon Empire forever.

Into danger flies Admiral William T. Riker and the USS Titan, charged with protecting the peace forged nearly a century before during the Khitomer Accords. Aided by Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the USS Enterprise, Riker and his officers scour the stars, seeking to find the Unsung and uncover the truth behind the conspiracy before time runs out.

Yet even as Commander Worf departs on a deeply personal mission of honor, hidden sinister forces seek to turn the crisis to their advantage. And the conspirators' plans threaten to spiral out of control, jeopardizing the very empire they aspire to rule.

I had trouble following keeping my focus....

on this book. maybe it's my ADD but I will have to go back and listen to it again to get a full understanding of all the characters and plots. there are a lot of them and I am sure it will be essential to the next story.

Petkoff Awesome

I’ve listened to 2 of the books in this series. He’s amazing. I can identify characters easily. I don’t know how he does this. Male, female, human, Klingon, no matter. I visualize from his voice! Loved him as the narrator.

More engaging than part 1

I'm really enjoying this story arc. Seeing a race from the series brought into the book series has been really enjoyable. Looking forward to the best book to see how it concludes

More exciting than book one Hells Heart

Loved this book! Very exciting with lots of action. I loved the plot twists. I hope they play out nicely in the 3rd and final book. I love how this book gives a bit more insight into the Star Trek universe. This series by John Jackson Millar is great so far and his other book in the Discovery series is exiting as well. I look forward to listening to the third book and I wish JJM wrote more books because his stories are incredibly fun. If he ends up writing the new Picard series I would buy the books no questions asked.

Excellent story, great series

I’m a fan of Star Trek novels and content. This is one of the best Star Trek series I’ve read. Book 2, The Jackal’s Trick is a wonderful addition to this series. I love the story and the twists and turns. Each twist is interesting and useful, not just a way to prolong the story. I can’t wait for Book 3.

still great.

Not as good as the First in the prey series, due to some pacing issues, but still a great addition to the Star Trek novels.

Exactly the Star Trek story we need

The series (so far) has been brisk and fun. it features a large cast of characters, and plays out like an HBO series.
I would note: there are some fairly heavy handed allusions to political figures and events in the USA. I enjoyed it, as it felt like the Enterprise crew showed up after the 2016 election and were dumbfounded by what they saw.
If you're OK with the former head of Breitbart being one of the most influential non-elected people in the country, this series might bother you.
