About this listen

Sara Blaedel, author of the number one international best seller The Forgotten Girls - which was roundly praised as "gripping" with "uncompromising realism" (Washington Post) and "tautly suspenseful" (BookPage) - returns with the thrilling next book in her series featuring police investigator Louise Rick.

Following an extended leave, Louise Rick returns to work at the Special Search Agency, an elite unit of the National Police Department. She's assigned a case involving a 15-year-old who vanished a week earlier. When Louise realizes that the missing teenager is the son of a butcher from Hvalsoe, she seizes the opportunity to combine the search for the teen with her personal investigation of her boyfriend's long-ago death...

Louise's investigation takes her on a journey back through time. She reconnects with figures from her past, including Kim, the principal investigator at the Holbaek Police Department, her former in-laws, fanatic ancient religion believers, and her longtime close friend, journalist Camilla Lind. As she moves through the small town's cramped network of deadly connections, Louise unearths toxic truths left unspoken and dangerous secrets.

Pretty good

Not a Nesbo but interesting enough to pass a snowy day. Bad guys and good guys , sone history and mythology come together in this twist on not only who done it but just how many.

loved the book, the twist and turns are amazing. I can't believe the plot twist at the end.

Good read

I enjoyed the story. The plot was good and kept me to the end. Not sure about the narrator though. I think there were too many characters and making different voices was too challenging for her. But I never fell asleep once and that's saying something! Twisty too...

Excellent mystery!

This novel had unusual plot twists and a strong female character. The fact it’s basis was in Norse or Scandinavian mythology was an unexpected turn. A great topic on which to weave a tale of modern European police action and techniques. Yes you could put it down, but you do so, only to savor it!! An excellent book.

Not her best

This was painful to finish but I was determined to see it through. So many pointless details; a lot of nothing. And so hokey. It could have been half as long and would have been twice as good.

Disgusting and twisted story.

The book starts with a scene of a horrific rape, murder, abuse of a minor, then rape again, violence, suicide. Narration makes it sound even more sickly. After about half an hour into the book, I felt that I can't continue any further. I usually listen to audiobooks to fall asleep. This one gave me a nightmare. I never read or listened to anything so disgusting and twisted.

lost in translation

I am very fond of Denmark and have often visited. I bought this book in anticipation of a bit of historically flavored suspense. Mistake. The narrator's accents varied from East Texan to SoCal. The plot was thin, and the character development very unsatisfying. I've never returned a book before. . . this was a first.

terrible referencing

the writer keeps referencing things that happened in previous books but not explaining them. it doesn't make any sense nor does it make me want to read the previous books. it just made me give up in this one.
