Publisher's summary

Robbie Parsons is one of London's finest, a black cab driver who knows the city by heart. In his backseat is a man with a gun in his hand - a man who brazenly committed a crime in front of the Artemis Club then jumped in and ordered Parsons to drive. As the criminal eventually escapes to Nairobi, Detective Superintendent Richard Jury comes across the case in the Saturday paper.

Two days previously, he had met and connected with one of the victims, a professor of astrophysics at Columbia and an expert gambler. Feeling personally affronted, Jury enlists Melrose Plant, Marshall Trueblood, and his whole gang of merry characters to contend with a case that involves Tanzanian gem mines, a closed Reno casino, and a pub that only London's black cabbies who have the knowledge can find.

With their signature wit, sly plotting, and gloriously offbeat characters, Martha Grimes's New York Times best-selling Richard Jury Mysteries are "utterly unlike anyone else's detective novels" (The Washington Post).

Jury's Back....

And oh how we've missed him. I've loved this series since the year One and The Knowledge is like a re-birth. The story is suprising and the interaction we love between Jury and Melrose Plant is at it's best. While Grimes builds the suspense, amazing in detail and gives us an atmospheric London, there are still moments of true hilarity. Wait for it... you won't believe whodunit!

(And a nod to Steve West for his great performance!)

One on my favorite Richard Jury books

In this story we are introduced to the inimitable Patty Hay, Trueblood’s background as a child which makes him a great croupier, and a pub for cab drivers that cannot be found by anyone else called The Knowledge. The crime is so perplexing even the killer didn’t know he’d done it until later. Jury and Wiggins figure it out though, with the help of Wiggin’s new murder board. Melrose’s trip to Africa is intrinsic in the conclusion - but especially adds humor.

Richard Jury mystery

Grimes is always a good read. Such character development! And always an unusual plot. I await the next book.

She does kids, and Melrose Plant so well!!!

Love the character development, quirky characters, and intrepid children that populate this Jury novel. Her characters are so wonderfully drawn, and multi-dimensional. It's such a pleasure to read an intelligent author whose characters aren't whiney!

Steve West does an excellent job with almost all (the many) voices.

I wait and wait for another Richard Jury book...

More of the same from Martha Grimes...suspense, artful and iimmensely readable... excellent! This story wanders around the world and yet still remains a riveting English mystery

Voices

Female voices seemed whiny which became grating after awhile. Jury's is smooth & easy to hear.

One of the best.

The plot is excellent with twists and turns. But the best is what a delightful and unlikely stage it is set upon. Plenty of humor as we watch our favorite characters in different settings.

Favorite of the series

An especially charismatic group of characters carry the mystery, and seem to bring out the best in Martha Grimes’ usual cast. Much enjoyed.
