About this listen

When a woman's whole life falls apart, she finds refuge in the home she left behind in this touching novel from the New York Times best-selling author of Before We Were Yours.

Karen Sommerfield has been hiding from the big questions of her life - the emotional distance in her marriage, her inability to have children, and her bout with cancer. Getting lost in her high-powered career provides the sense of purpose she yearns for. Until the day she's downsized out of her job and the doctor tells her the cancer may be back. It's a double blow that would send anyone reeling.

It sends Karen to Grandma Rose's old farm, where her sister has made a seemingly perfect life. Opening herself to the unexpected, Karen finds a lonely child in need of nurturing and insights into her family's past. In the quiet of the Missouri Ozarks, where the sycamore leaves whisper their soft, secret language, she begins to discover answers - and a joy to make her life complete.

I wish I had known this is "book 3 of 5"

I love Lisa Wingate. She's amazing. I didn't realize this book belongs in a set if 5 books. I'm grateful I had read the first two already. If I had known, I would have listened to them back to back and in order. I have 2 questions to the author.. 1 in this book Mrs Gibson comes to meet the family, but her granddaughter is not with her, nor is she mentioned. Also Drew Lane, Jenna Lee's brother. When he introduced himself it sounds like drooling, not Drew Lane. Parents really should hear these things before filling out birth certificates. Other than that I absolutely love this book. Can't wait to start the next.

A beautiful reminder of the true value of life

I loved this book, but if you didnt read tending roses first go back and do that ine first. while i personally loved this book more it does set some things up and a little different perspective on the words that really have deep meaning in this book. its a beautiful story of finding yourself again and how to find your way back to the true and basic purpose of relationships. i found myself reflecting how my life might seem like Karen's or if my life or choices have put me in a similar emotional situation. i recommend this book if you are ready to take an emotional journey about the meaning of life and relationships.
