About this listen

A comprehensive, upbeat guide to help you survive the moving process from start to finish, filled with fresh strategies and checklists for timing and supplies, choosing which items to toss and which to keep, determining the best place to live, saying farewell, and looking forward to hello.

Moving is a major life change - time-consuming, expensive, often overwhelming, and sometimes scary. But it doesn’t have to be! Instead of looking it as a burdensome chore, consider it a new adventure.

Ali Wenzke and her husband moved 10 times in 11 years, living in seven states across the US. She created her popular blog, The Art of Happy Moving, to help others build a happier life before, during, and after a move. Infused with her infectious optimistic spirit, The Art of Happy Moving builds on her blog, offering step-by-step guidance, much-needed comfort, practical information, and welcome advice on every step of the process, including:

  • How to stage your home for prospective buyers
  • How to choose your next neighborhood
  • How to discard your belongings and organize your packing
  • How to say good-bye to your friends
  • How to make the transition easier for your kids
  • How to decorate your new home
  • How to build a new community
  • And so much more

Ali shares invaluable personal anecdotes from her many moves and packs each chapter with a wealth of information and ingenious tips (Did you know that if you have an extra-large welcome mat at the entrance of your home, it’s more likely to sell?). Ali also includes checklists for packing and staging and agendas for the big moving day.

Whether you’re a relocating professional, newly married, a family with kids and pets, or a retiree looking to downsize, The Art of Happy Moving will help you discover ways to help make your transition an easier one - and be even happier than you were before.

Great guide to making your move better - happier and cheaper!

Great way to adjust your attitude and save money (for example, her suggestion to look on NextDoor for boxes got us all of our boxes and paper for free!)

Very useful and surprisingly entertaining.

So much more information in this book than simply how to organize a move. Full of personal anecdotes and cautionary tales, well researched, and touching on a variety of moving-related topics— like how to make friends in a new community and acclimate children to change— that are lovely additions to this very practical book.

Enthusiastic and Empathetic

Realistic look at what it takes to get organized to move and get settled into your new home and town. Pets and children sections can be skipped if they don’t apply. But overall good solid book the helps you tackle your move!! Thank you!!

Helpful little book

I have moved a lot and it’s always a little bit awful. I’m eager to use these new tips to make my move better. Some of the information in this book is sort of repeating info I already knew but I did appreciate the decluttering and box packing tips and how to make new friends. Over all it was good book and I would recommend it.

Absolutely a must read!

Even though I am only 34, and not military, I’ve moved nearly 20 times and the majority of those moves were what I call “big moves”. This last move sent me into an internal catastrophic emotional disaster, and had I not found this book I probably wouldn’t have gotten through it in one piece. Just the humor alone helped me cope and made me feel as though I wasn’t alone and there was still a chance for peace on the other end (once we were all done of course). I am so thankful for this book and I would refer it to anyone, especially those who are needing a little EXTRA reassurance end guidance through a time where everything is probably out of sorts. Thank you so so much to both the author and the narrator! You are my angels!

Don’t read this review - RTDB**

**Read The Damn Book!

Here’s the ‘ol I don’t leave reviews, but… This book was like going to a therapy session I didn’t know was scheduled and coming out with a new perspective on life. Ok-that may be a bit extreme-but seriously- based on the subject matter I was blown away.

This helps you plan your move, very logistical-but reminds you to be a good human and the map to happiness along the way.

The vocal performance* was not a “performance” at all-it was like having coffee with your bestie, who just happens to be ALI WENZKE. There wasn’t a single moment that Ali was “reading” - it was as if I was as if she and Dan (her hubby) were old friends of mine - and she was sharing her experience while giving me a fun pep talk.

*And I’m a professional voiceover artist-who had a trained ear for “conversational reads”
