Publisher's summary

Dieter Hess, an aged spy, is dead, and John Bachelor, his MI5 handler, is in deep, deep trouble. Death has revealed that the deceased had been keeping a secret second bank account - and there's only ever one reason a spy has a secret second bank account. The question of whether he was a double agent must be resolved, and its answer may undo an entire career's worth of spy secrets.

Insightful

This was an entertaining story that leaves you feeling it may have provided setting for further books.

A good story

A short, but very interesting and entertaining read! Just adding to the world of Slough House

Another link in a twisted chain.

Jackson Lamb is as sharp witted as ever! Slightly disappointed that River Cartwright only appears towards the end as a driver for Jackson.

Clever spy story.

Excellent reader and story line. At times hard to follow who is who but great story.

entire novel crammed into a short story

as a fan of the slough house series, this filled an important gap for me. my only complaint is that I wish it was a lot longer

The unique story-telling of Herron

Shorter than I would have like but it was fun to meet other characters and have them be at the center of the story even while Lamb and Taverner are there to help us keep our bearings.

great short story

definitely has the qualities and foundation of a much longer tale, but ends leaving the reader to complete the narrative. I also have to mention that the continuing character development is great. I don’t think I have ever run across a curmudgeon quite like jackson lamb.

very short, but as usual, well written, and great narration

very short, but as usual, great storytelling, and great narration. Knowing it was that short, I might have skipped it and gone onto the next in the series.

Neat spy novella.

Neat little novella. Easy listen. Simple plot with a well laid out twist. A bit cleaner than the Slough House series but you still get peeps at Lamb, Taverner, and a couple current or soon to be slow horses.
