Publisher's summary

When this best-selling autobiography was originally released, everyone was shocked: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell was the darkest, funniest, most controversial and best-selling rock book of its time - and it became the template, both visually and narratively, for almost every rock book since. Marilyn Manson is not just a music icon, it turned out, but one of the best storytellers of his generation. Written with best-selling author Neil Strauss and modeled on Dante's Inferno, this edition of The Long Hard Road out of Hell features a bonus chapter not in the original book. In the shocking and candid memoir, Manson takes listeners from backstage to emergency rooms to jail cells, from the pit of despair to the top of the charts, and recounts his metamorphosis from a frightened Christian schoolboy into the most feared and revered music superstar in the country. Along the way you'll hear what happens to fans - and celebrities - who dare to venture backstage with the one of the world's most dangerous rock stars. In the words of Elle magazine, the book "makes Madonna's infamous Sex seem downright wholesome in comparison".

Wow

Bought this thinking ok what's this guy really about because ive never understood him beforehand. What I got was much much more. Maybe I'll never really understand Marilyn Manson but this book really was honesty at it's best. I truly got more than I had anticipated! Definitely would recommend and worth buying!

not impressed

Struggled to finish it. Story is juvenile. I liked MM before reading this book. I'm a fan of anti-facism but I heard more about disgusting treatment of people and teen-like partying. Not much substance.

Raw deal

It's good to understand every side of Marilyn Manson; the good, the bad, the untamed, and the uncensored version.

Only wish this was read by Manson

The book seemed to be chronological for the most part. All the interesting history behind the band was kinda in there but it was more of how people were morons and close minded. There are some sick twisted stories. I only wish Manson would revisit this book and narrate it himself.

was a really interesting perspective on life, it's kind of what I expected but did have some unexpected stories. I liked it very much.

as a big manson fan, i really did enjoy this book. my only complaint was i feel like i wanted to know more in depth detail about the music and less about the partying and girls lol like they were interesting but overall good quick listen

Terrible, pretentious writing but interesting life

He had a privileged childhood but still stressed how difficult his childhood was. If you think about it, being sick of school and having a few painful breakups is pretty much a standard part of growing up. He'd have you believe he barely made it out alive though. Pretty silly.

I want to stress how pretentious and over written this is. You sort of tune it out after awhile but it's bad. He's a failed writer and it's clear why. He's not a good writer. He's a terrible writer.

He had an interesting life, though. I think I'm so addicted to autobiographies that I've found myself listening to an autobiography of a musician I'm not even a fan of. Interesting listen, though.

AMAZING READ!!!

I loved this book. Brian Werner is an intelligent person and tells an awesome story of Marilyn Manson and really humanizes the media demon of the 90s. He's a great writer with an amazing artistic ability and even has a background in journalism. While most people seem to have a fear of the obscene Marilyn Manson has an wonderful ability of embracing that and using that to his advantage in his artistic style of music, writing , visual art and performances to become the one of the best Rock bands of the 90s and the Pop Culture Icon that he is today. This is a wonderful book.
