Publisher's summary

Step through the looking glass. Slay the Jabberwock. Seek the King.

Alice is not prepared to face what awaits beyond the Tulgey Wood. When she and the rest of Team Heart enter the fourth and final Wonderland Trial, it’s up to her to lead them to victory. But this Trial is more than a game. If Alice and the others fail to defeat the Jabberwock and reveal the truth about Wonderland, more than points and fame will be lost.

Chess Shire never believed he’d make it this far. Now he’s stuck navigating a Trial he’s seen but doesn’t remember, all while searching for the brother he left behind. Not everything is as black and white as the game that shares his name. And if Alice discovers his deepest regret? Chess might just lose her too.

Apart, Chess and Alice scour the eight squares of the Heart Trial in search of memories, truth, and an Ivory King who seems more illusion than reality. Will they learn to lead together to face their greatest fears? Or will they remain pawns in a queen’s game, never truly seeing the Wonderland they’ve come to believe in?

Great story, great narrations

I really enjoyed both books. Both well worth the purchase and I will recommend them to others. However I kept losing focus, some parts seemed to drag on and I found myself wondering when conclusion would occur.

Excellent twist on the classic!

I liked how familiar characters kept their charm, and how it bounced between two actors voicing the different sections (perspectives).

Two Great Narrators

I’ve read the paper copy of this book once already. I wanted to listen to it as well for another experience. It was delightful. Frabjous, if you will. I enjoyed it immensely. Both narrators did a wonderful job of immersing me into the story.

Why does it have to be over?

If you loved the Wonderland Trials, you’ll love the Looking-Glass Illusion even more! It blew my expectations out of the water. The narration is amazing and the story sucked me in from the very beginning. I wish it didn’t have to end.

A Perfect Conclusion

This duology is one of my favorite series. I’ve listened to it twice, and I’ll likely listen to it again. It’s an immersive experience. The characters are complex. Alice and Chess don’t fall into the stereotypical YA characters. I love how Alice is both recognizable as Alice in Wonderland but is also her own person. The characters are cleverly named.
I prefer the second book slightly because it introduces Chess’s character. I prefer books with more than one POV. The pacing of the story is perfect. The characters face challenges and move on. They’re never in so much peril that the story is stressful. Instead each challenge offers more information of character development.
The conclusion is perfect. I love when a book offers a peek into the happily ever after.
