About this listen

They were supposed to die.

Five years ago, the residents of the Gerbera subdivision in the small town of Fallen Oaks were brutally murdered in their beds. The only survivors, now called The Fallen Oaks Five, were children - practically strangers at the time, forever connected by the weight of all they witnessed.

Now grown, the anniversary of their families’ deaths approaches, and the Fallen Oaks Five receive letters of warning: The killers are still out there, and they aren’t finished with them.

In a race against time and murderers who remain both faceless and nameless, the Five must return to their old homes in order to piece together the events of a night they’d all rather forget.

Their old town is riddled with secrets, and every person they come into contact with is a suspect.

With everything at stake, can the Five solve the mystery and finally learn the truth about the night that cost them everything? Or will they find themselves victims of a fate they should’ve succumbed to years ago?

Meh

Not her best, but an interesting twist at the end. It just felt like a short story rather than a book. It might have been better if there had been more explanation about exactly why the events happened, it felt sort of glossed over.

meh

I'm a big fan of this author but this one is all over the place and definitely needed better editing like other reviewers have stated. I lost count of how many times "truth be told" was said. I felt like the narrator wasn't a great fit for someone who's supposed to be in their early 20's, but she was great aside from that.

Good Thriller

The Lucky Ones didn't have the wild twists I'm used to from KMod, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story and suspense of this book. Lots of lies and deceit and what in the ever lovings and it kept me on the edge until the very very end.

The audio was really well done, I enjoyed Linda Jones and the overall production immensely.

As a romance reader I was excited for a minute there thinking we'd get a happily ever after, but I should have known better. The very last chapter had me bugging my eyes from my head and making me want to relisten asap to see what I missed. I'm still a little shooketh...

Caught Me By Surprise!

The Lucky Ones was a read that caught my interest. The story line was unique and I couldn’t stop listening. It was about a 5 hours listen and was just right in length. The story was fast paced without a lot of extra detail, which would’ve taken away from the mystery.
I look forward to listening to more stories by Kiersten Modglin.

An OK listen

I had just listened to another book by this author and loved it, so was excited to listen to another book by her. No where near the same level of entertainment. I'm not into curses, science fiction, fantasy type things and this one leans toward those ideas. Yes, the book is always talking about a "stressful situation" but the author always seems frantic - the tone got to be annoying.

Where have editors gone?

I thought I would really like this one but it was so hard to listen to. Even the strong narration couldn’t save it. For starters, did anyone read it before publishing? Do they realize the author used the words “truth be told” at least 12 different times? Six times in the first 45 minutes. I get it - you’re telling the truth - take a red pen to that garbage please!! As for the story, I found the whole thing very confusing. I’m still not sure exactly why it all happened. The last 30 minutes about 25 characters were discussed, none of them doing much of anything meaningful. Save your credit unless you enjoy poor writing and keeping track of characters who don’t actually do anything. Disappointing.
