Fantastic story, heartbreaking

My eyes were opened to the inhumanity survived in early Ireland. This is a story that needed to be told. Thank you. Niall.

Fascinating and Tragic

I loved that some level of dignity and respect was able to be restored to those mistreated and misunderstood.

History

Who knew? Without bringing things to light, society may never have known the details of what happened behind the walls of Ireland's Asylums. In order for there to be change, we must know the history.
My heart breaks for Julia Leonard and her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Very Well Written

This story was so sad. I'm happy that some of the families finally found some sort of justice and closure for their loved ones.

Such an important listen

This was such a powerful, informative listen. I enjoyed learning not only about Julia Leonard and her family but also considering the others that were placed in the “Madman’s Hotel” and what might have unfairly landed them there. Just learning about the process that Julia’s descendants had to go through and how much further work can be done to respectfully honor the memory of the patients was really moving.

Commonalities with closed institutions throughout the world

I’m living on the property of a former State Hospital with the same issues in the USA.
