About this listen

Agatha Christie's debut novel was the first to feature Hercule Poirot, her famously eccentric Belgian detective.

A refugee of the Great War, Poirot is settling in England near Styles Court, the country estate of his wealthy benefactress, the elderly Emily Inglethorp. When Emily is poisoned and the authorities are baffled, Poirot puts his prodigious sleuthing skills to work. Suspects are plentiful, including the victim’s much younger husband, her resentful stepsons, her longtime hired companion, a young family friend working as a nurse, and a London specialist on poisons who just happens to be visiting the nearby village.

All of them have secrets they are desperate to keep, but none can outwit Poirot as he navigates the ingenious red herrings and plot twists that earned Agatha Christie her well-deserved reputation as the queen of mystery.

Excellent!

Richard Armitage narrating a book included for free with Audible Plus? Yes please! I enjoy watching the Miss Marple TV series, but never got into the Poirot series. I’m so glad I gave this book a try! The characters, setting and narration are all excellent, and the unfolding mystery is top notch! I was captivated throughout and didn’t want to stop listening. Enjoy!

Christie's Poirot done btilliantly

Apparently The Mysterious Affair at Styled was the author's first Poirot novel and it shows a bit. Richard Armitage"s rendering is superb and I think I detect an homage to David Suchet, the best Poirot portrayer by far. Most entertaining if a bit far-fetched at times, but that's Chtistie.

Can't Go Wrong With Poirot

You have to pay attention to details when reading AC. Love all mysteries, but when Poirot wraps it up, you're still surprised.
I would recommend all Christie.

Excellently written and narrated!

Following a murder mystery was exciting and jovial at the same time. Poirot is delightful and makes me chuckle with his friend, Hastings. Time flew by as I listened. Armitage is a wonderful narrator. I will be looking forward to more of his narrations.

Agatha Christie is meant to be read...

I love this book so much and I’ve read it so many times but listening to it was just not the same. Maybe it was this one particular performance but it just wasn’t quite right and wasn’t as fun as it normally is

Richard Armitage as Poirot! 💗💗

Richard Armitage is the gold standard for narration and he comes through on this as well, mastering the many different accents in this novel, even Hercule's Belgian accent. I have reread this series every few years and was so happy to see this included in the Audible Plus catalog. I'd happily buy it if it wasn't.

Priceless narration and story

Richard Armitage is just spectacular as narrator! He does every character with distinction and superb inflection! The Agatha Christi mystery is as convoluted and fascinating as one would hope. And of course msr Poirot is his classic self! A great listen !
