About this listen

He’s in awe of its history. He thinks it's beautiful in the rain. But he’s not ready for what’s stirring below the surface of Loch Ness.

When you’re the editor of a successful investigative journal, you don’t dash around Scotland chasing after loch monsters. But Gill McArdle didn’t believe in unicorns either, and speaking honestly, he was fortunate to walk away from that one.

He’s a scientist, and not one of the wild-eyed optimists spending their days, scanning the loch for a creature. And here’s his problem. With every passing hour, evidence mounts that something is stirring. Far to the north, an unusual animal carcass is discovered in Caithness. In the west, the disappearance of a fishing boat remains unexplained. And as Gill follows the data, his investigations lead him, reluctantly, to the banks of Loch Ness. Still skeptical about the increasing sightings below Urquhart Castle, he reopens an old archaeological site in his search for answers. In a crushing realization, he is forced to admit that danger lurks in the Great Glen’s deepest waters.

What I enjoy about this series is not only good story plots, but well written and edited without extraneous sentences. Some of the characters from the previous book are in this one. I won’t expound as others already have. Enjoy!

Book 2 of the series is another fun listen with the same wonderful Scottish reader.

I’m always a bit dubious about reading a series. They can be a good lead in to a bad series. This isn’t one of those so far.

Another good story from the series

The more I listen, the more I want to hear. The thrill of possibly finding the myth could have reality, just to be swept away by a tsunami? Wow. Raphael making a continued appearance, keeps the intrigued and me wanting more. I am spell bound and awaiting the next book in the series
Well done.

History and fiction combined perfectly

Mr Cockburn proved he is not a One Hit Wonder. This series has legs !!! He shows his research chops in this book while weaving a tale you think is going one direction only to realize something even more terrifying is unfolding. I loved it !!!

Just started book 3. This series seems to develop in complexity and depth as it goes forward which is a refreshing change from others I’ve committed to only to grow bored - no chance here. Mr Cockburn is a master of his craft
