About this listen

There's a murderer on the loose on a storm swept island cut off from the Scottish mainland. It's down to Losers Club, a quirky weight loss group led by the intrepid Penny Moon, to catch the culprit.

When Old Archie the postman is shot and ends up in Mrs Hubbard's ice cream freezer, the whole island is aghast. Especially Mr Hubbard, who objects strongly to having to move all the ice lollies into the other freezer. Newly divorced and desperate to make a life for herself and her teenage children, Penny Moon arrives on Vik just in the nick of time, before the island is cut off by a storm. Her weight loss business doesn't have the best of starts, when a series of blunders leads to it being called Losers Club. However, it does have the best of people—a decent, disparate bunch who decide that, with the police unlikely to arrive any time soon and a murderer on the loose, it is down to Losers Club to investigate. As they dig deeper into the mystery, they uncover a dark secret, kept by the older islanders for almost half a century. A secret that has come back to haunt them and threatens their very existence.

I really enjoyed the narrator and the main characters of the story. I hope to hear more stories involving these characters.

This story was fun and easy to follow.

The “murder” story line was so far fetched and boring . No suspense, but overall ok

Funny, loved the Scottish accent

I didn’t finish the story because the f word was used twice in the first few minutes. I don’t find that a relaxing way to spend my time.

The story and reader were average. Sophomoric references to sex and bathroom functions deserve no stars!

Tacky

I settled down to sleep with Audible set to narrate for one hour , thinking I would be listening to sweetbold biddies outsmarting their exceedingly stupid local constabulary, when WHAM! After the intro, I was whirled into the life of a foul-mouthed mom who was leaving her tax-cheat and bed-cheat spouse, dragging her ungrateful spoiled bratty kids with her. I thought "uh-oh, I can't relate to this protagonist at all!" but it was too late. I was laughing so hard, my dog jumped off my bed! It was clear this was NOT a book that would lull me to sleep! I can see I will have to listen to the series in order, in it's entirety.

Shockingly Hilarious!

Per my title, this book is really more than a cozy mystery, but not all the way to a procedural. The storyline is more complex than a cozy, but in order to wind it up, it does get a little far-fetched. Also, although I am no prude, the language of this book seems to be raunchy just for the effect of being raunchy. Not a lot of actual profanity though. I appreciated that. Generally the narration is good, but there is a long stretch toward the end that involves conversation between two less featured characters. This was so irritating to listen to. The narrator did not get accents even close for either one of them. I often listen to audible books when I'm falling asleep, and these accents were bad enough that they kept me from falling asleep. As far as continuing with the series, I would not spend a credit on the next book. But I would purchase it if the price was low enough on a special sale.

More than cozy; less than procedural

I enjoyed this book. It kept my interest through every chapter! If bad language bothers you, this book isn’t for you. But if not, it is a must read!

Great Story, Even Better Characters

I've listened to a lot of audio books. A lot. This series is easily top in the top 3. Ostensibly, these are mysteries. In reality? Mysteries that make me literally laugh so hard that I lose my breath. Tears of laughter are so common that my mascara takes a hit! The mystery part is well written and makes sense. The narrator is the perfect choice. The only downside? I'm almost their with the series. It will be a gray day when I'm done with them. ***There is a lot of language in the books and off- color humor. Normally, I wouldn't listen/read a book with this much, but for some reason, it's well done! Gah. These are the funniest books.

Best Audio Experience Ever!
