About this listen
Number One New York Times Best Seller •

From number one New York Times best-selling author Daniel Silva, this summer’s hottest thriller.
Now you see her.
Now you don’t.
THE NEW GIRL.
A new thriller of deception, betrayal, and vengeance.
She was covered from head to toe in expensive wool and plaid, the sort of stuff one saw at the Burberry boutique in Harrods. She carried a leather bookbag rather than a nylon backpack. Her patent leather ballet slippers were glossy and bright. She was proper, the new girl, modest.
But there was something else about her....
At an exclusive private school in Switzerland, mystery surrounds the identity of the beautiful raven-haired girl who arrives each morning in a motorcade fit for a head of state. She is said to be the daughter of a wealthy international businessman. In truth, her father is Khalid bin Mohammed, the much-maligned crown prince of Saudi Arabia. Once celebrated for his daring social and religious reforms, he is now reviled for his role in the murder of a dissident journalist. And when his only child is brutally kidnapped, he turns to the one man he can trust to find her before it is too late.
What’s done cannot be undone....
Gabriel Allon, the legendary chief of Israeli intelligence, has spent most of his life fighting terrorists, including the murderous jihadists financed by Saudi Arabia. Prince Khalid - or KBM, as he is known - has pledged to finally break the bond between the Kingdom and radical Islam. For that reason alone, Gabriel regards him as a valuable, if flawed, partner. Together, they will become unlikely allies in a deadly secret war for control of the Middle East. The life of a child, and the throne of Saudi Arabia, hang in the balance. Both men have made their share of enemies. And both have everything to lose.
Filled with dark humor, breathtaking twists of plot, and an unforgettable cast of characters, The New Girl is both a thrilling, pause-resisting tale of entertainment and a sophisticated study of political alliances and great-power rivalries in a dangerous world. And it is once again proof that Gabriel Allon is “one of fiction’s greatest spies” (Kirkus) and Daniel Silva is “quite simply the best” (Kansas City Star) writer of foreign intrigue and suspense at work today.

The Nazis, however, have also chosen an unlikely agent.

If anyone could be considered a Russian counterpart to the infamous British double-agent Kim Philby, it was Oleg Gordievsky. The son of two KGB agents and the product of the best Soviet institutions, the savvy, sophisticated Gordievsky grew to see his nation's communism as both criminal and philistine. He took his first posting for Russian intelligence in 1968 and eventually became the Soviet Union's top man in London, but from 1973 on he was secretly working for MI6.

After 10 years of living life on the edge, it was hard for Doc Ford to get that addiction to danger out of his system. But spending each day watching the sun melt into Dinkins Bay and the moon rise over the mangrove trees, cooking dinner for his beautiful neighbor, and dispensing advice to the locals over a cold beer lulled him into letting his guard down.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

It all begins on a Monday, when four people board an elevator in a Manhattan office tower. Each presses a button for their floor, but the elevator proceeds, non-stop, to the top. Once there, it stops for a few seconds, and then plummets. Right to the bottom of the shaft. It appears to be a horrific, random tragedy. But then, on Tuesday, it happens again, in a different Manhattan skyscraper. And when Wednesday brings yet another high-rise catastrophe, one of the most vertical cities in the world - and the nation’s capital of media, finance, and entertainment - is plunged into chaos.

Another Hit for Silva
Will Gabriel Allon ever get to retire? Not if Daniel Silva keeps cranking these out. Again, great plot and narration, (altho I would say that a reader new to this series might have been a bit lost in places -- lots of references to previous "operations" described in previous books of the series.

His Best
I love Daniel Silva. His books are always timely and are more like non-fiction sometimes, they are so current. This one was no exception. The telling of a story that could have been ripped from the headlines requires so much attention to detail, and Silva nailed it, so much so that I really had to pay attention to the Prologue to separate fact from fiction. Well done! I am hoping a new book is coming soon!

Page turning, fast-paced, newer-a-dull-moment kind of mystery. Daniel Silva gives us a new POV on something we have read about in the news and think we know what happened. Very good! I would definitely recommend it.

I like all of the Allon series, but have felt some of the previous were a little slow and weren’t quite as good as they’d been. I found this one to be refreshing and bring that excitement back that some had been lacking. Great read, onto the next.

The present-day context of The New Girl, with its fictitious yet somewhat parallel events, makes this book a powerful metaphor, a vehicle of self-examination and of warning. Thank you, and thanks to Guidall for his always excellent narration.

If I could give this 6's across the board, I would
OUTSTANDING! I appreciated every moment of this book. Although I've rated Daniel Silva's books quite high most of the time, there were a few that were less than spectacular. I've kept reading or listening, however, because nearly all were excellent. This one... I cannot wait until the next. Appreciate knowing so many of the characters in this one and appreciated the incredible plot.

Like fine wine, Silva gets better with time
I've been a huge fan of Silva (and this genre of spy novels) for a decade and Silva is one of the best. Each of his books gets better and better and each time I finish I'm not sure how he'll ever be able to top the last one. George Guidall also adds to the book - not only is George my favorite reader of all time but he's almost an extension of Daniel Silva himself. Great plot, builds on previous books, character development is strong. Highly recommend but this one is better if you read the one just before (The Other Woman).
