Publisher's summary

The shocking death of a young woman leads detective Dave Robicheaux into the dark corners of Hollywood, the mafia, and the backwoods of Louisiana in this gripping mystery from “modern master” (Publishers Weekly) James Lee Burke.

Detective Dave Robicheaux’s world isn’t filled with too many happy stories, but Desmond Cormier’s rags-to-riches tale is certainly one of them. Robicheaux first met Cormier on the streets of New Orleans, when the young, undersized boy had foolish dreams of becoming a Hollywood director.

Twenty-five years later, when Robicheaux knocks on Cormier’s door, it isn’t to congratulate him on his Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. Robicheaux has discovered the body of a young woman who’s been crucified, wearing only a small chain on her ankle. She disappeared near Cormier’s Cyrpemort Point estate, and Robicheaux, along with young Deputy Sean McClain, are looking for answers. Neither Cormier nor his enigmatic actor friend Antoine Butterworth are saying much, but Robicheaux knows better.

As always, Clete Purcel and Davie’s daughter, Alafair, have Robicheaux’s back. Clete witnesses the escape of Texas inmate Hugo Tillinger, who may hold the key to Robicheaux’s case. As they wade further into the investigation, they end up in the cross hairs of the mob, the deranged Chester Wimple, and the dark ghosts Robicheaux has been running from for years. Ultimately, it’s up to Robicheaux to stop them all, but he’ll have to summon a light he’s never seen or felt to save himself and those he loves.

Stephen King hailed New York Times best-selling author James Lee Burke “as good as he ever was”. Now, with The New Iberia Blues, Burke proves that he “remains the heavyweight champ, a great American novelist whose work, taken individually or as a whole, is unsurpassed” (Michael Connelly).

Loved It!

Burke always leaves me feeling full, but hungry for more. And Patton is convincing whether as Dave, Clete, or the ancient man in the evidence locker.

I've been a fan of J L Burke's books for years. His books take me into the deep South, meeting it's people and exploring their lives. It sounds like voyeurism
but feels like riding in a car with a
good friend who has spent his life
in law enforcement.

An absolute treat.

Such a talented writer. This was my first James Lee Burke novel and I will definitely be listening to another. His flow is quick and his metaphors are beautiful. The highlights for me we're in the dialogue. I decided on this originally because of Will Patton. Damn it, I don't know what it is about his narrating that I love so much, but I just can't get enough. I could listen to him read the dictionary.

Louisiana Love Affair

As usual, JLB has me feeling I am in New Iberia and experiencing everything as he describes. I especially love when he mentioned attending a Marsha Ball concert. I have met Marsha at Summerfest in Milwaukee, where my daughter was her personal security guard. I have always been drawn to the New Orleans area, maybe because some of my family is French-Ojibiwa. Will Paton narrating makes it all complete.

Another amazing Dave Robicheaux tale

JLB just gets better and better. I loved the story and hearing it read by Will Patton just can't be beat! What a pair these two make. Burke paints with words and I can see and feel his home, his love for it and the people of the south. Thank you Mr. Burke and Mr. Patton for so many wonderful reads/listens and I look forward to the next one! Write on!!!

Another great Burke novel

A long time fan of James Lee Burke and he never disappoints. He always has a cast of characters you love and hate, feel sorry for and cheer on. Robicheaux and Purcell will always be my heroes. Will Patton always does an outstanding job reading these books. Now to wait on the next one.

THE MAN DOES IT ,ONCE AGAIN .

Well I just finished New Iberia Blues & I have to say , Mr. Burke did not disappoint .I enjoyed listening to it every night ( had to pace myself and just allowed a few chapters a night , Due to illness I wanted to to stretch the book out while I am healing off and on in the Hospital) Every time I read are sit down and listen to one of his wonderful books I am taken back to the Louisiana I grew up in and so many memories come back ,( kind of like old Dave and Cletus trying to hang on to Good parts of living in such a wonderful time ,place & some of the most Good Hearted people you will ever know .
I really Love and enjoy everything Mr. Burke has written. His books have helped me get through some pretty tuff times in and out of the Hospital.
I highly recommend this book.
Thank You .. God Bless ,,, David Lee
