About this listen

Sal Russo, a down-and-out writer, finds a mysterious package in his garden. Inside, a manuscript details a girl's abduction. It ends with a note: Write the next chapter in her life or she dies. Her fate is in your hands.

With breaking news of the missing girl, Sal realizes this isn't a prank. As the stakes rise, the girl's only hope for survival is for Sal to stay one step ahead of her tormentor in this twisted writing game.

The Next Chapter spins a plot that will keep you guessing right up to the end, moving forward at breakneck speed as the clock ticks down to the final confrontation.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The Next Chapter is a thriller about Sal Russo, a semo-successful writer who receives an odd request to write the next chapter in a kidnapped victim's life, or she might be killled. The story is well written with relvant secondary characters and good details. I gave the story a 4, though, because the story contained too many plot sections stereotypical of a thriller.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the pacing and the uniqueness of the story.

Would you listen to another book narrated by David J. Bell?

I found David Bell's voice to be a little flat and uninspiring.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Write in now: or die.

This was a great book! The suspense throughout is nerve wracking.A man is in mourning for his wife and daughter who died in an accident. He is an author and after six months, the publisher wants his book as promised. The next day a horrible surprise is left on the authors porch. It will change his life,as well as others. David J Bell is a wonderful narrator.I was given this book free by the author, narrator,or publisher.

I listened to about 40% of this one and I can't stay awake. I'm not sure if it's the story or the narration, but I have no more time for this one. The idea behind the story seems like it should be interesting, but...

The narrator's character voices are ok, but the rest of the narration is flat (not exactly monotone, but close). The story might be easier to take if there was more character dialogue.

The LAST Chapter... for me.

Story line was compelling and interesting. A book that I definitely wished I had farther to drive at times, so I could listen more.

Started a little slow, but lots of intrigue after that that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Solid thriller book.

No - very solid job though.

So I started this book and it felt like the first half drudged on until the good parts came. When the good parts finally came it was nonstop action which I liked. The narration was ok, kinda bland but ok. I don't know if it was the speed of the narration or just bland. A lot of telling and not a lot of dialogue, and I felt there could have been so much more for this book. I would definitely try another book from this author hoping for better results.

Happy Reading/Listening!!!

Hard one for me to review

I read in other reviews a common thread of "the story starts slow." I did not find that to be true for me. Instead, I rather liked the beginning more than the middle and ending. It was a story I was quite ready to end about an hour earlier than it did. It is not a consistent book in its flow and action. It does, however, have an intriguing storyline that helps build the pressure. I was a little off-put by the Christian vibe that kept popping up - gave the book an unrealistic element it really could have done without since there were already so many unrealistic stretches of disbelief.
The narrator was intolerable unless listened to at a much faster speed and even then it was a bit numbing. Not sure why I gave him 3 stars. I guess because I was able to get used to the voice so that it didn't annoy me.
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

Intriguing storyline, unrealistic filler

Intense, interesting and entertaining as far as the plot/storyline is concerned.

Starts out a little slow, but as the story continues it pulls you. Especially the last quarter of the book.

What would you do if someone's life was in your hands? That's the position Sal Russo is put in when he finds a package sent to him from a killer. A completely sadistic piece of work. Full of plot twist that are woven together nicely and keep you on the edge of your seat. I could have done without the christen references in the story.

David J. Bell did an okay job with the narration. His character voices were good, but the narration in between characters is to flat/monotone. During these times it just sounds like he's reading, there is no character or emotion during these narratives. This makes it hard to listen for long periods of time. I usually listen to a book straight through I could not do that with this book.

I can not say enough about this book. It is one of the most interesting ones I have listened to in a long time. Didn't think I would like it at first because it was set in the Civil War era, but it completely surprised me to say the least.

It was based on a man that was an assassin and a few years in his life. The hardships that he went through and the joys of his family. Real thought provoking decisions and some others that will open your mind up and make you think.

I would recommend this to any one that wants to see where our country came from.

What did you love best about The Next Chapter?

This book kept me interested on my commute while driving so much I had missed my turn a couple of times. It was a good mystery that will have you guessing the who and why. The narrator did a good job with all the different characters voices.
